West Virginia Wishing for Another Win
West Virginia held their own against #15-ranked BYU but eventually fell by a score of 38-24. Khalil Wilkins went only 7/15 for 81 yards and two interceptions while Scotty Fox Jr. completed 3/3 passes for 54 yards and a TD. Diore Hubbard and Wilkins each rushed for a touchdown, but the latter was the primary rusher with 89 yards on 23 carries. Cam Vaughn and Jeff Weimer each led the team with two catches for 43 yards, but the former caught the lone touchdown pass. Chase Wilson had six tackles and five tackle assists on defense. He also had the only interception for the Mountaineers, and nobody managed a sack.

With their primary QB in Nico Marchiol, out, Wilkins has come in to take his place. Overall, however, Marchiol leads the team with a 67.3% completion percentage while throwing for 720 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Wilkins is the primary rusher for the Mountaineers now with 195 yards and 39 carries. Vaughn remains the top receiver with 19 receptions, 320 yards, and three TDs. Nobody else has more than 13 receptions, 132 yards, and one touchdown. Fred Perry is the leading tackler on defense for West Virginia, with 43 total and 28 solo tackles. Chase Wilson has a team-high three sacks thus far and four different players have two passes defended on the year. Darrian Lewis and Wilson are the only ones with multiple interceptions on the year. The Mountaineers have ten players listed on their injury report, including Perry and Marchiol. Perry is probable, but everyone else, including Marchiol, is out for this upcoming contest.
Knights Still Fighting
The Knights were defeated by the #24 Cincinnati Bearcats by a score of 20-11 in their most recent game. Cam Fancher went 28/49 for 222 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. However, he was also the leading rusher with 20 carries for 108 yards and a TD. Dylan Wade was the leading receiver on the day with five catches for 55 yards. Phillip Dunnam was the leader on defense for UCF with six tackles and one tackle assist. Nobody on the defense managed a sack or an interception.
Tayven Jackson has taken the majority of reps at the quarterback position for UCF, completing 64.5% of his passes for 906 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Myles Montgomery is the only rusher with over 300 yards, and he has 434 along with a team-high 86 carries. The player with the second-most carries has 31 to his name. Interestingly, Jaden Nixon has the most rushing touchdowns with four. Duane Thomas Jr. leads the receivers with 26 receptions for 272 yards, but he has yet to score a TD. DJ Black has two touchdown receptions to lead the team. Lewis Carter has a total of 38 tackles, while Malachi Lawrence has a team-high two sacks. Jayden Bellamy has the most passes defended with four and he is one of five players to record an interception on the season for UCF. Eleven players are listed on the injury report for Boston College, including Fancher. While the rest are out, only two players are considered questionable to play this week.
West Virginia vs. UCF Pick
Spread Pick for West Virginia vs. UCF
- UCF -7,5 (4 units)
The main key is that the Mountaineers are 0-3 on the road and the Knights are 3-1 at home this season, thus far. With the injuries to several key players, including Marchiol, I expect West Virginia to falter towards the end and fail to cover the spread. UCF will be loud as they play at home and attempt to end their losing streak. Tayen Jackson should be back and healthy again and the Knights are due for their first win against the Mountaineers.
Over/Under pick for West Virginia vs UCF
- Under 47 (4 units)
There are too many injuries for me to think about taking the over in this one. While these are typically high-scoring games, the under was hit in their last meeting against each other and UCF has scored no more than 20 points in each of their last three games. West Virginia hasn't fared much better, averaging 16 points per game across their last three. With injuries to their QB's, I expect each team to attempt to keep the ball on the ground as much as possible to prevent other injuries, thus draining the clock and limiting the number of possible points being scored.
