A Strong Start By The Hilltoppers

Western Kentucky enters Friday’s matchup riding a three-game win streak, most recently edging Missouri State 27–22 behind a balanced offensive attack. Quarterback Maverick McIvor continues to deliver, throwing for 317 yards on 26-of-39 passing with one touchdown and no picks. He’s now averaging 294.8 yards per game with a 67.2% completion rate and a 10:2 TD-to-INT ratio. Running back La’Vell Wright has emerged as a game-breaker, averaging 6.3 yards per carry on the year and scoring twice last week on just 10 touches. The Hilltoppers rank 43rd nationally in scoring offense (35.0 PPG) and have hit the over in three of five games.

Defensively, WKU has been bend-but-not-break, allowing 22.6 points per game (59th nationally) and forcing six turnovers through five contests. The secondary has held opponents to 6.9 yards per attempt, and the front seven has generated consistent pressure, especially on third down. Linebacker Jace Freeman leads the team in tackles and has been key in limiting explosive runs. While they’ve struggled in red zone containment, the Hilltoppers have made timely stops and kept games within reach — even when trailing late.

Western Kentucky’s offensive ceiling gives them a strong chance Friday night, especially if McIvor continues to push tempo and La’Vell Wright finds space early. While their lone road underdog spot — a 45-21 loss at Toledo — exposed some defensive gaps and red zone inefficiency, this matchup offers a more favorable path. Delaware’s defense has struggled against pace and misdirection, and WKU’s ability to generate chunk plays could tilt the game script. If they finish drives and stay clean, the Hilltoppers have the tools to flip momentum and steal one on the road.

Blue Hens Off To A Solid 3-1 Start

Delaware comes in hot after a 38–16 win over FIU on Sept. 20, powered by quarterback Nick Minicucci’s efficient outing: 218 yards, three touchdowns, and a 65.7% completion rate. He’s now thrown for 1,065 yards with eight TDs and just two picks on the season, while adding four rushing scores. Running back Jo’Nathan Silver has been a reliable workhorse, averaging 7.2 yards per carry and 81.5 yards per game. Wideout Kyre Duplessis leads the team with 306 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Delaware ranks 82nd nationally in scoring offense (31.0 PPG).

Defensively, the Blue Hens have allowed 26.3 points per game and struggled at times against tempo and vertical passing. They’ve forced just four turnovers and rank outside the top 80 in red zone defense. Linebacker Viron Ellison Jr. anchors the unit, but Delaware’s secondary has been vulnerable to deep shots and misdirection. That’s a concern against a WKU team that thrives on chunk plays and tempo shifts. Still, Delaware has held opponents under 20 points in two of four games and showed improved tackling last week.

As a 2.5-point home favorite, Delaware is in a prove-it spot. They’re just 2–2 against the spread and 0–1 ATS when laying more than a field goal. The implied score (32–30) suggests a tight contest, and with the total set at 61.5, oddsmakers expect fireworks. If Minicucci stays clean and Silver finds lanes, Delaware can control pace and protect home field — but they’ll need to tighten up defensively to hold off a surging Hilltoppers squad.

Western Kentucky vs Delaware Pick

Western Kentucky vs Delaware Spread Pick

  • Western Kentucky +2.5 (4 Units)

Western Kentucky -2.5 is a sharp play in a matchup that favors tempo, quarterback efficiency, and offensive versatility. Maverick McIvor has quietly put together a strong season, averaging nearly 300 yards per game with a 67% completion rate and a 6:2 TD-to-INT ratio. He’s complemented by La’Vell Wright, who’s averaging 6.8 yards per carry and gives WKU a true dual-threat look. Delaware’s defense has struggled against pace and misdirection, and WKU’s ability to generate chunk plays and flip field position quickly puts pressure on a unit that ranks outside the top 80 in red zone containment. If the Hilltoppers start fast, they can control the game script and force Delaware into a chase.

The line also reflects WKU’s scoring ceiling. They’ve posted 27+ in four of five games and rank top-25 nationally in yards per play. Delaware’s offense is efficient but not explosive, and WKU’s pressure packages have forced mistakes in every win. While the Hilltoppers failed to cover in their lone road dog spot at Toledo, this matchup is more favorable — with a defense that tightens situationally and an offense built to stress secondaries. If McIvor stays clean and the Hilltoppers finish drives, WKU has the edge to cover and extend their win streak.

Western Kentucky vs Delaware Over/Under Pick

  • Over 61.5 (5 Units)

Over 61.5 is a strong play in a matchup built for offensive tempo and chunk plays. Western Kentucky ranks top-25 nationally in scoring and yards per play, with Maverick McIvor orchestrating a pass-heavy attack that’s hit 27+ in four of five games. Delaware counters with a balanced offense led by Nick Minicucci and Jo’Nathan Silver, both capable of sustaining drives and finishing in the red zone. Neither defense grades out as elite — both rank outside the top 80 in red zone efficiency — and both offenses thrive on pace and misdirection. With explosive potential on both sides and limited resistance in the secondary, this total sets up for a shootout that could clear the number by the fourth quarter.
