Western Kentucky vs Indiana Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 19 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 09/13/2026, 04:15 PM ET

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers travel to Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, to face the No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM ET with coverage on Peacock. Western Kentucky has endured a brutal start to the season, losing 49-14 at Nevada before suffering a 70-20 defeat at No. 2 Georgia. Indiana enters at 2-0 after opening with a 52-16 victory over UTEP and then shutting out Howard 55-0. The defending national champions have therefore outscored their first two opponents 107-16 entering their final tune-up before Big Ten play. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Western Kentucky's Opening Schedule Has Been Brutal

Western Kentucky could hardly have been given a more difficult beginning. The Hilltoppers opened with a 49-14 loss at Nevada and then traveled to Athens to face No. 2 Georgia. That second assignment went even worse, with Georgia building a 49-point first half and eventually winning 70-20. WKU is now 0-2 and has surrendered 119 points.

There were at least some offensive signs against Georgia. Western Kentucky scored 20 points and finished with 225 yards despite facing one of the country's deepest defenses. The problem was that early mistakes helped Georgia create immediate separation, and once the Bulldogs established control the Hilltoppers had no realistic path back into the game.

Now Western Kentucky faces another Top 5 opponent on the road. The Hilltoppers need to avoid the catastrophic opening that occurred at Georgia and make Indiana work through sustained possessions. WKU's schedule explains some of its ugly numbers, but consecutive blowout losses also make it difficult to trust the Hilltoppers against another elite roster.

Indiana Has Been Ruthless Against Overmatched Opponents

Indiana has looked every bit like a defending national champion through two games. The Hoosiers opened with a 52-16 victory over UTEP and followed it by shutting out Howard 55-0. Indiana is 2-0 with a +91 scoring differential, and neither opponent has been able to seriously threaten the Hoosiers after the opening stages.

The Howard game was another demonstration of Indiana's ability to turn a talent advantage into an overwhelming final margin. The Hoosiers didn't simply win; they prevented Howard from scoring at all and reached 55 points despite the fourth quarter being shortened because of the heat. That suggests Indiana hasn't been interested in casually playing through these early nonconference games.

Western Kentucky should provide more offensive resistance than Howard, but its defense is the major concern. After allowing 49 to Nevada and 70 to Georgia, WKU now faces an Indiana team averaging 53.5 points. The Hilltoppers' schedule has undoubtedly been difficult, but Indiana has shown no reason to expect a major drop in offensive production.

Western Kentucky vs Indiana Picks and Prediction

Pick: Indiana -34.5 or Better

Take Indiana if the spread is -34.5 or better. Western Kentucky has lost its first two games by 35 and 50 points, while Indiana has won its first two by 36 and 55. The Hilltoppers are playing their second consecutive Top 5 opponent on the road, and Indiana has consistently punished overmatched teams rather than allowing them to remain competitive. I'll lay five touchdowns or less with the Hoosiers.

Pick: Over 59.5

Take the Over if the total is set at 59.5 or lower. Indiana has scored 52 and 55 points, while Western Kentucky has surrendered 49 and 70. Unlike Howard, WKU has enough offensive capability to contribute to the total after scoring 20 at Georgia. Indiana could approach the number almost by itself, and a projected Indiana 49, Western Kentucky 17 clears both targets.

Final Picks: Indiana -34.5 or Better and Over 59.5
