Wyoming vs. San Diego State prediction

In a Saturday night game in the Mountain West Conference, San Diego State plays host to Wyoming. San Diego State (6-1, 3-0 MWC) has won five in a row and is tied with Boise State atop the conference standings, and Wyoming (4-4, 2-2 MWC) has won two of its three games after a three-game skid. The matchup is all here in this detailed Wyoming vs. San Diego State prediction.

If you are struggling to pick winners, you've come to the right place. We have the strongest NCAAF Predictions.

SDSU is a 10-point favorite in this game with a total of 42.5.

Can Wyoming Beat a Good Team?

While Wyoming has four wins, one came facing an FCS team and the other three opponents have a combined record of 7-17. In their last game, they shone on defense in a 28-0 home win over Colorado State. While they did not outgain them by a ton (372 yards to 305 yards), they forced three turnovers and did not commit any, and rushed for 212 yards. Kaden Anderson passed for 154 yards with two TDs, Sam Scott rushed for 68 yards and a TD, and Chris Durr Jr. led the way with 67 receiving yards and a score. The Cowboys covered as a 5.5-point favorite and have covered the spread in their last three games.

Wyoming is not a high-scoring team, only ranking 113th in the nation in ppg (21 ppg), but it ranks 32nd in points allowed (19.8 ppg). They are led by a run game that ranks 65th in rushing yards per game and only ranks 93rd in passing yards per game.

Anderson (1,634 yards 11 TD 6 INT) had four TD and four INT in the three games before the last one. Scott and Samuel Harris are the top two backs, combining for 776 rushing yards and three TD, and each is averaging over five yards per carry. Durr Jr. (398 yards 4 TD) is the lead WR, but he only combined for 41 yards in three games before the last one. Wyoming will face a SDSU defense that ranks 25th in the nation against the pass and 13th against the run.

Injuries

The Cowboys have a few players questionable, but no key injuries.

San Diego State Pitches a Shutout, Again

In their last game, San Diego State was on the road and shut out Fresno State 23-0 for their third shutout of the season. In the win over Fresno State, the Aztecs outgained them 332 yards to 227 yards and while committing two turnovers, they also forced two and also rushed for 208 yards. Jayden Denegal passed for 124 yards with no TD and an INT, Lucky Sutton had a big game with 131 rushing yards and a TD, and Byron Cardwell Jr. had 59 receiving yards. SDSU covered as a 3-point favorite and has covered the spread in their last five games.

The Aztecs are led by their defense, as they rank second in the nation in points against (10.4 ppg) and 61st in scoring (29.9 ppg). They are mostly about the run gam,e ranking 41st in rushing yards per game and 115th in passing yards per game.

Denegal (1,221 yards 7 TD 3 INT) had passed for over 200 yards with two TD and no INT in the two games before the last one. Sutton (662 yards 7 TD) has averaged 110.7 rushing yards over the last three games. Jordan Napier (567 yards 2 TD) is the lead receiver and after two games with a total of 263 receiving yards, he only had 14 in the last game. SDSU will be up against a Wyoming defense that ranks 29th in the nation against the pass and 99th against the run.

The Aztecs have quite a few players questionable, including third leading WR Jacob Bostick and third leading rusher Christian Washington.

Wyoming vs. San Diego State Pick

Wyoming vs. San Diego State

  • San Diego State -10 (+4 Units)

San Diego State has won five in a row, and Wyoming has won two of their last three games. The Aztecs have the second-best scoring defense in the nation, and they are coming off a shutout win, which was their third this season. While the Cowboys are .500, the three FBS teams they have beaten have a combined record of 7-17. This is not a good matchup for the Cowboys’ defense, as their strength is against the pass, while the strength of the Aztecs’ offense is the run game. In terms of the Wyoming vs. San Diego State prediction, SDSU will kill it on defense, again, and have a solid offensive game, which is why they are the pick to win and cover.

Over/Under Pick for Wyoming vs. San Diego State

  • Under 42.5 (+4 Units)

The total has gone Under for the last two games for Wyoming and for the last game for San Diego State, and that is the pick I am leaning towards in this game. The Aztecs have three shutout wins this season, including their last one, and they have the second-best scoring defense in the nation, only allowing an average of 10.4 ppg. They will play solid defense in this game, facing a Wyoming team that is not a high-scoring one. While the Cowboys have a pretty good overall defense, they have struggled against the run. SDSU will have a big game on the ground but not score a lot of points. The Aztecs will have a good game on offense behind their rushing attack, but, like the last game, will not put up a lot of points. Because of that and their defense will play well, again, the Under is the pick.
