Huskies’ Offense Shines In Week One
The Huskies are coming off a win last week against the Central Connecticut Blue Devils with a final score of 59-13. While this was an impressive win they did have an easy first game going up against a non conference opponent. The Huskies will be looking to grab their first win against a conference opponent in week two.
UConn demonstrated an elite offensive presence last week as they had a total of 638 yards in their first game of the season. Again while this was against a non conference opponent the Huskies did put on an impressive show of their talents. Their 250 rushing yards place them 30th in the country but what is more impressive is that they averaged 7.6 rushing yards per carry which has them tenth in the country. While the pass game was strong their run game seems to be a problem for any team that struggles to stop the run.
Last week, we saw Joe Fagnano get the start at quarterback against the Blue Devils.
- has a passer rating of 199.0 with 260 yards and 3 touchdowns in 1 game this season.
- had a passer rating of 152.9 with 1,631 yards, 20 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in 10 games in 2024.
- has a passer rating of 109.9 with 228 yards and 2 touchdowns in 1 game versus Syracuse in his career.

Syracuse Looking To Bounce Back
The Orange suffered a tough loss last week against the Tennessee Volunteers with a final score of 45-26. This would kick off their season with a 0-1 record but will be aiming for a much better performance against UConn who they have had success against in the past.
Last season, Tennessee finished fourth overall in points and yards allowed so going up against them in game one of their season is a tall ask for Syracuse. Despite going up against one of the better defensive teams last year the Orange were capable of generating 26 points and 338 yards. The key to the Syracuse offense lies in their pass game as their run game struggled to produce many yards averaging only 2.3 yards per carry. However in the air the Orange would have 274 yards and one touch down with an average of 6.9 yards per completion.
Quarterback Steve Angeli got the start week one for Syracuse against Tennessee.
- has a passer rating of 118.3 with 274 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception in 1 game this season.
- had a passer rating of 156.7 with 268 yards and 3 touchdowns in 11 games in 2024 with Notre Dame.
- will be facing off against UConn for the first time in his career.
UConn vs. Syracuse Pick
Spread Pick for UConn vs. Syracuse
- Syracuse -6.5 (-114) (4 units)
The Syracuse Orange have a record of 5-0 in their last five games versus UConn and have covered a 6.5-point spread in all five games. The Orange also had a record of 6-1 at home in 2024. Last season, UConn started their season off with a 1-3 record on the road, with one of those losses being to Syracuse. Syracuse is coming off a tough matchup last week and despite their loss, will be a tough contender, especially going up against UConn who had a few issues against the pass despite locking down the run game last season.
I am taking Syracuse at -6.5.
Over/Under Pick for UConn vs. Syracuse
- Over 58.5 (-105 ) (4 units)
While both teams last season found some success at stopping the run game, they did not succeed as well at stopping the pass game. Syracuse finished 86th overall in passing yards and UConn ended 66th. While UConn has the slight edge in their pass defense, it is nothing compared to their run defense which ranked 39th in rushing yards allowed last season. This is going to lead to a game in which both teams are going to focus on their pass game which has looked great after week one. With a back-and-forth pass game, I have to look to a higher scoring game.
I am siding with the over at 58.5.
