Dodgers vs Giants Prediction

The San Francisco Giants will open their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Oracle Park, and we have you ready to go with the Dodgers vs the Giants' prediction.

Opening Pitch is slated for 10:15 PM Eastern as the Giants fight for a playoff spot in the NL. Read on for the Dodgers vs Giants prediction and more free MLB picks.

Dodgers Extend NL West Lead

Los Angeles blanked the Rockies in their series finale, tallying nine runs on 14 hits. Four batters finished with multiple hits at the plate, with Mookie Betts adding four hits and a home run. Teoscar Hernandez added a home run in the 8th. The Dodgers scored in only two innings, but both innings featured explosive at-bats. Blake Snell got the start, and over six innings, he struck out 11 and allowed no runs on two hits.

RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto is slated to start the series for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This season, Yamamoto has made 27 starts, posting an 11-8 record with a 2.74 ERA over 155.2 innings pitched. On the road, he holds an 8-4 record with a 2.36 ERA across 92 innings. Notably, he maintained a 1.05 WHIP in away games. Yamamoto will look to continue his strong road hurling here.

On the road this season, Yamamoto holds the following splits:

  • ERA: 2.26
  • Opponent Batting Average (OBA): .188
  • BB/K Ratio: 0.25

Los Angeles enters this contest averaging 5.56 runs per game, which lands them at 3rd in the league. The Dodgers struggled with consistency early on this season, but they now sit 3rd in overall batting average. What's more, they've been hitting much stronger in front of their home crowd. They sit 2nd in the league in home runs per game, but they've fallen into the bottom half of the league in strikeouts per game. They've still been able to drive runs home at a high rate, and this has made up for much of their plate inconsistencies.

Giants Climb In NL West

San Francisco was unable to pull off the sweep as they fell to Arizona in a 5-3 final. The Giants finished with three runs on six hits, with Casey Schmitt being the only player to log multiple hits at the plate. San Francisco struck out seven times in the contest. Carson Seymour got the start, and over 1.1 innings, he allowed four runs and struck out one.

RHP Justin Verlander is expected to start the series opener. This season, Verlander has made 25 starts, posting a 3-10 record with a 4.10 ERA across 127.2 innings pitched. The veteran right-hander has been heaving his strongest in nighttime affairs, where he holds an ERA and OBA that sit stronger than his season benchmark. If he can continue to limit the long ball and generate strikeouts at a high rate, he should be able to log his 4th win of the season.

At home this season, Verlander holds the following splits:

  • ERA: 4.22
  • Opponent Batting Average (OBA): .257
  • BB/K Ratio: 2.1

San Francisco enters this contest averaging 5.0 runs per game, which lands them at 7th in the league. The Giants have struggled with consistency at the plate this season and are currently sitting in the bottom 10 in overall batting average. The Giants have been hitting even more weakly on the road, but more than half of their home runs have come away from home. San Francisco has been hitting their strongest in afternoon games this season. On the plus side, home runs have been coming at a much higher rate than the league average. San Francisco's problems begin at the plate, though. They are sitting in the bottom 10 in strikeout rate, but their ability to hit for extra bases has often made their offense lethal.

Dodgers vs. Giants Pick

Side Prediction for the Dodgers vs Giants

  • Los Angeles ML (4 Units)

The Dodgers have seen the ball well this month, and their high home run rate is certainly a tailwind as they face a Giants pitching staff that has struggled to limit hits. The Giants are having a rough batting month so far in September, and with their offense sitting in the bottom half of the league in strikeout rate, we should expect them to continue to struggle against a Dodgers pitching staff that sits 3rd in hits allowed.

Total Prediction for the Dodgers vs Giants

  • Over 8.5 (4 Units)

The Dodgers' offense remains one of the more prolific in baseball, and with their high home run rate, it bodes well for their offense to face off with one of the more inconsistent pitching staffs in the league. San Francisco has logged more than half of their home runs in front of their home crowd this season, and given that the Dodgers are in the bottom 10 in strikeout rate, they could string together some multi-run innings here.
