The American League and National League will meet in the 96th MLB All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET, with national television coverage on FOX. The National League enters as a -135 moneyline favorite, while the American League is priced at +110. The run line has the American League at +1.5 and the National League at -1.5, while the total is set at 7.5 runs. This year’s Midsummer Classic brings baseball’s brightest stars to Philadelphia as part of the celebration surrounding the 250th anniversary of the United States. The National League won the 2025 All-Star Game after the teams finished nine innings tied 6-6. The game was settled through the first home run swing-off in All-Star Game history, with the National League winning the event 4-3 and receiving a 7-6 victory in the official score. That result ended another American League run of success and gave the National League only its second victory in the past 12 All-Star Games.

Starting Pitchers

Dylan Cease will start for the American League after going 6-4 with a 2.56 ERA over 17 starts during the first half of the season. The right-hander recorded an American League-leading 148 strikeouts across 98.1 innings and averaged 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings. Cristopher Sánchez receives the starting assignment for the National League in his home stadium. The left-hander enters the game with an 11-4 record, a 2.62 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and 144 strikeouts across 127.1 innings. Sánchez has been especially effective at Citizens Bank Park, where he produced a 7-1 record and a 0.86 ERA during the first half.

American League Brings Power and Strikeout Potential

The American League lineup begins with an experienced outfielder in the leadoff position before moving into a designated hitter who provides substantial power from the left side. The middle of the order includes a power-hitting catcher, one of the league’s most dangerous young third basemen and an athletic shortstop capable of influencing the game in several ways.

There is still considerable depth toward the bottom of the order. The sixth through ninth spots feature a combination of established power, positional versatility and players enjoying breakout seasons. Even without several elected starters who will not participate, the American League has enough quality throughout the batting order to create difficult matchups for every National League pitcher.

The pitching staff could be the American League’s greatest strength. Its starter leads the league in strikeouts, and the available pitchers behind him give manager John Schneider several different options. Because All-Star pitchers typically work brief appearances, the American League can continually introduce fresh arms and attempt to prevent the National League lineup from seeing the same pitcher twice.

National League Carries Home-Field Momentum

The National League batting order begins with a Philadelphia power hitter serving as the designated hitter. That placement should immediately energize the home crowd and gives the National League a legitimate extra-base threat at the top of the lineup. The next several spots include a patient left-handed hitter, an experienced first baseman and a shortstop with the ability to provide both speed and power.

The lower portion of the order should not be overlooked. The National League has offensive production spread across all nine positions, with multiple first-time All-Stars earning starting assignments. Its lineup combines veteran experience with younger players who produced strong first halves for contending clubs.

Philadelphia also provides the National League with a meaningful advantage at the beginning of the game. Its starting pitcher is working in his regular home ballpark, where he posted a 0.86 ERA before the break. Although he is unlikely to remain in the game for long, his familiarity with the mound and surroundings could help the National League establish an early lead. The host Phillies also have six representatives, the most from any team in this year’s game, giving the National League additional familiarity with Citizens Bank Park.

What Could Decide the 2026 MLB All-Star Game

The most important question may be which league receives the better performance from its relief pitchers. Both starting pitchers have excellent numbers, but neither is likely to work deep into the game. The constant pitching changes make an All-Star Game much different from an ordinary regular-season matchup, as hitters may face a new pitcher during nearly every plate appearance.

The American League owns the stronger historical record in this event, leading the all-time series with 48 wins, 45 losses and two ties. It has won 10 of the past 12 All-Star Games, although the National League captured last year’s contest. The leagues have also split the previous six All-Star Games played on July 14, with three victories apiece.

The National League’s home-field setting and starting-pitching advantage are significant, but the American League possesses enough power to remain close throughout the night. With both sides able to use premium pitchers in short bursts, sustained rallies could be difficult to produce.

American League vs. National League Picks and Prediction

  • Pick: National League Moneyline -135

The National League is the preferred side at Citizens Bank Park. Sánchez has been outstanding in Philadelphia, and his 7-1 home record with a 0.86 ERA gives the host league an excellent opportunity to begin the game with a scoreless opening inning. The National League also has six Phillies representatives available in a familiar ballpark and a lineup with dangerous hitters from top to bottom. The American League’s pitching depth makes this a close matchup, but the National League has enough advantages to justify the moderate favorite price.

  • Pick: American League +1.5

While the National League is the pick to win, taking the American League with 1.5 runs provides protection in what could become another close All-Star Game. The American League has won 10 of the past 12 meetings and brings a deep collection of power hitters and strikeout pitchers. With constant pitching changes limiting extended rallies, a one-run National League victory is a realistic outcome. The American League +1.5 is therefore the preferred run-line selection.

  • Pick: Under 7.5

The under is the strongest total play. Cease and Sánchez have ERAs below 2.65 and have combined for 292 strikeouts during the first half. Neither starter should face the opposing lineup more than once, and both managers can follow them with a steady supply of rested All-Star pitchers. Although Citizens Bank Park can produce offense, the depth and quality of the two pitching staffs make Under 7.5 the better wager.

Final Score Prediction: National League 4, American League 3
