Can the Athletics continue taking major positives from 2025?

The Athletics came into 2025 expecting very little, but on the back of some impressive performances from players like Jacob Wilson, Brent Rooker, Shea Langeliers and Nick Kurtz, the future is looking incredibly bright for this team. As a result of these performances, the A's rank 11th in baseball in runs scored, and while their 4.81 team ERA ranks them 28th in the league, there's been plenty of positives for them to take away from the 2025 campaign.

Taking the mound here will be veteran righty Luis Severino, who has struggled to a 4.65 ERA in 25 starts this season, with the 31-year old allowing 142 hits in an up-and-down 141.1 innings of work thus far in 2025. Last time out for the Athletics was another dominant win over the Angels, with four A's tallying three RBI or more on the night as J.T. Ginn gave them a solid 5.0 innings on the mound to come away winners 17-4.

Can the Angels finish an inconsistent season on a high?

The Los Angeles Angels have struggled to build a contender for quite some time now, and behind a 34-37 record at home this season, there are still many more questions than there are answers about this franchise. With a combined team ERA of 4.74 this season, the Angels haven't had many positives, but given that they rank 21st in baseball in total runs scored, that is one slight positive that they could potentially hang their hats on after 2025.

In this matchup, Los Angeles will turn to 24-year-old rookie Mitch Farris to make his second career big league appearance, with his first seeing him toss 5.0 innings of three-run ball to start his career with a 1-0 record. Last time out for the Angels was a tough loss to their AL West rivals, with three runs in the final two innings not enough to keep this one close as Yusei Kikuchi gave up seven earned runs over 2.0 innings, with the team getting blown out 17-4.

Athletics vs. Angels Pick

Spread Pick for Athletics vs. Angels

  • Athletics -114 (4 units)

While the Angels hold a 6-4 record in their last 10 head-to-head matchups with the Athletics, it's the road team in this one that has won four of their past five, including two dominant performances to open up this late-season series.

In that five-game stretch, the A's have outscored their opponents 49-24, and with the experienced Luis Severino matching up against a rookie making his second start, look for the road team to finish off a very impressive sweep in this one.

  • Over 9 (4 units)

In two games of this series so far, there have been a total of 35 runs scored between these teams, taking the over to 8-2 in their last 10 head-to-head encounters, with an average of 13 total runs scored per game during that stretch.

For the Athletics, the over sits at 6-4 in their last 10 overall games, with 6.5 runs scored per game in that time, and for the Angels, the over comes in at 5-5 in their past 10, with 6.5 runs allowed per game during that stretch.

Keep it simple, take the over.
