Braves Playing Spoiler

The Atlanta Braves are looking to continue building momentum to end the season as they were able to secure a 6-5 road win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. The lineup was able to go 7-for-33 with six walks and six strikeouts on the day. Nacho Alvarez Jr (x2) and Drake Baldwin hit home runs, while Ronald Acuna Jr stole a base. The Braves went 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded six men on base. Joey Wentz did not factor into the decision as he pitched five innings and gave up a pair of runs.

The Braves are sending young righty Spencer Strider to pitch, and he is struggling. As in 21 starts, he is 6-13 in 114.1 innings with a 4.64 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. He has had trouble limiting the number of home runs, as he has given up 19 already after allowing 22 in 186.2 innings in 2023. Strider last faced the Tigers in 2023 as he recorded the win by throwing five innings and giving up five runs on seven hits with one hit by pitch, two walks, and six strikeouts.

Tigers Ice Cold Lately

The Detroit Tigers are looking to bounce back after Saturday’s 6-5 home loss against the Atlanta Braves in their most recent game. His command this year has been the best we have seen in his career as he has 33 walks to 126 strikeouts thus far. Atlanta Braves vs. Detroit Tigers Pick

Spread Pick for Braves vs. Tigers

  • Atlanta Braves ML (4 units)

There is such a thing as momentum, and the Braves coming back and scoring three runs in the final two innings to win Saturday certainly gives them an advantage. Especially with the Tigers being ice cold right now and just finding different ways to lose over the last week. There has been a slight difference with how these starting pitchers have done in September thus far as Spencer Strider is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and a .234 opposing batting average in 18.0 innings (three starts) while Casey Mize is 2-0 with a 3.31 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP in 16.1 innings (three starts) up to this point. The Braves have won seven of the eight games against the Tigers dating back to the 2023 season, so go with the Atlanta Braves to secure a win and the sweep.

Over/Under Pick for Braves vs. Tigers

  • Over (4 units)

Both starting pitchers have been getting rocked during the previous seven starts, as Spencer Strider is 1-5 with a 6.63 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP in 36.2 innings, while Casey Mize is 4-1 with a 4.91 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP in 36.2 innings during that stretch. During the last 15 days, these pitching staffs have been struggling as the Braves are 24th in baseball with a 4.89 team ERA (14 games) while the Tigers are 21st with a 4.60 team ERA (13 games) during that stretch. These teams have had the over hit in seven of their last 10 games against one another, so go with the over to hit here.
