The Braves have scored 557 runs while collecting 963 hits and 152 home runs. Atlanta is batting .249 with a .315 on-base percentage and .417 slugging percentage. The pitching staff has posted a 3.63 ERA while recording 973 strikeouts against 389 walks.

Atlanta's balance is the biggest strength entering this matchup. The Braves have enough offensive production to support their pitching staff, while Sale gives them a starter capable of controlling a dangerous Yankees lineup. Atlanta does not necessarily need a big offensive performance Saturday if Sale continues pitching at his current level.

Yankees Need Their Pitching to Carry the Load

New York enters the weekend at 64-51 overall and is 2-3 over its last five completed games. The Yankees recently beat the Cubs 2-1 and St. Louis 2-0, but they also suffered losses of 5-2, 13-7 and 3-1 during that stretch. New York was idle Thursday before beginning the weekend series against Atlanta on Friday.

The Yankees have scored 522 runs with 881 hits and 164 home runs. New York is batting .231 with a .310 on-base percentage and .412 slugging percentage. The pitching staff has been excellent overall, posting a 3.33 ERA with 1,030 strikeouts and 355 walks.

The concern for New York is finding enough offense against Sale. The Yankees have more home runs than Atlanta this season, but their lower batting average makes sustained offensive production less reliable. Cole gives New York a chance to keep the score close, but the Yankees may need to take advantage of limited scoring opportunities against the Atlanta starter.

Pick: Atlanta Braves Moneyline

I'm taking the Atlanta Braves on the moneyline. Atlanta enters with the better overall record, stronger recent form and the better starting pitcher statistically. The Braves are batting .249 compared with .231 for New York and have scored 557 runs compared with 522 for the Yankees.

Cole is good enough to keep New York competitive, but Sale's 12-6 record and 2.08 ERA give Atlanta the pitching advantage I want in a matchup expected to stay relatively close. I trust the Braves to generate enough offense to support Sale and come away with the road victory.

Pick: Under 8

I'm also taking the Under 8 if that is where the total is set. Atlanta has Sale on the mound with a 2.08 ERA, while Cole enters with a 3.42 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. New York's pitching staff has also posted an excellent 3.33 team ERA this season.

The home-run potential at Yankee Stadium creates some danger, especially with the teams combining for 316 home runs this season. Still, the quality of the starting pitching gives me more confidence in run prevention. I expect both starters to limit scoring opportunities through the middle innings and keep this game below the total.
