Rogers Makes Final Appearance

In what has been a strong first season with the Baltimore Orioles, Trevor Rogers will make his 18th start in the final series of the regular season.

  • He earned the win against the Yankees last Friday, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out seven over six scoreless innings. Rogers struck out seven and walked none in his latest gem.
  • According to Yahoo.com, Rogers generated 17 whiffs on a season-high 106 pitches and held the Yankees hitless until the sixth inning. In 17 starts this season, he’s allowed no earned runs five times, one earned run eight times, two earned runs three times, and three earned runs once.
  • He will carry a 1.35 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 100:26 K:BB over 106.2 innings into the final appearance of the year.

It has been a disappointing season for the Orioles, who had lofty expectations leading into the season. Rogers has been excellent, but starting pitching has been a recurring issue for the club. They are 24th in team ERA and 26th in WHIP. Heading into play Thursday, they have allowed 209 home runs, the fourth most in MLB.

Yankees Closing in on AL East

New York has yet to name a starting pitcher for the first game of this series with the Orioles, the final series of the season. New York has already clinched at least a wild-card spot, but they have the division crown in its sights.

  • Aaron Judge tied the major league record by reaching 50 home runs for the fourth time, hitting a pair of dingers as the New York Yankees regained a share of the AL East lead for the first time since July with an 8-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.
  • Max Fried won his sixth straight start and became the major leagues' first 19-game winner. Leading into play Thursday, the Yankees have won seven of eight, moving a season-high 22 games over .500 and getting to 90 wins for the seventh time in the last eight full seasons.
  • They had not held a share of the division lead since before play on July 3, and are tied with Toronto atop the division with four games left. The Blue Jays, who have lost six of seven, hold the tiebreaker.

Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees Game Pick

  • Baltimore Orioles ML (4 Units)

The Yankees have a chance to move ahead in the American League East with a victory over the White Sox on Thursday before closing out the season with this series against the Orioles. Trevor Rogers has been one of the best pitchers in the AL this season, and he will make his final appearance of the year here.Β  In 17 starts this season, he’s allowed no earned runs five times, one earned run eight times, two earned runs three times, and three earned runs once. He will carry a remarkable 1.35 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 100:26 K:BB over 106.2 innings, and I like him to shut down another high-powered O. Take the Orioles.

OVER/UNDER PICK for Orioles vs. Yankees

  • UNDER (4 Units)

It appears New York will go with a bullpen game for the first tilt of this series with the Orioles, perhaps in preparation for a potential playoff rotation. The Pen has not been particularly sharp this season, but the Orioles are experimenting with several young players in the lineup, which makes navigating through Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman easier. The total has gone under in five of New York’s last six games overall. Take the under here.
