Singer Making 30th Start

Brady Singer will start his 30th game of the season on Wednesday in the finale of this three-game series with the Cardinals.

  • He allowed two runs over six innings in a loss to the Athletics on Friday. Singer gave up a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first to Lawrence Butler and also surrendered the first of Carlos Cortes' two solo shots in the game.
  • He did pitch okay in the game, but the Reds gave him zero run support. While this was a sixth straight quality start for Singer, it was the first time he'd allowed a long ball in that span.
  • He's given up eight runs over his last 36 innings while posting a 36:9 K:BB. For the season, the right-hander has a 3.94 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 149:57 K:BB across 155.1 innings over 29 starts.

Heading into action Tuesday afternoon, the Reds are two games behind the New York Mets for the third and final wild card spot. Elly De La Cruz was moved out of his usual No. 3 slot for the first time this season on Monday. De La Cruz walked twice and hit a double in an 11-6 Reds win.

Pallante Takes the Hill

The slumping St. Louis Cardinals will trot out right-hander Andre Pallante in the final game of this series.

  • Cincinnati (75-75) and the San Francisco Giants (75-75) are both two games back of the New York Mets in the race for the final National League wild-card slot.
  • Meanwhile, the Cardinals (73-78) have fallen 4 1/2 games back thanks to losing six of seven games. Pallante took the loss last Friday against the Brewers, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits and four walks in five innings. He failed to record a strikeout.
  • The 26-year-old right-hander went without recording a strikeout for the second time in his last seven starts. This is also the fifth start where Pallante has recorded one or fewer strikeouts.
  • The walks came back to haunt Pallante, who issued at least three of them for the fourth time in his last six starts. Although he's thrown at least five innings in six consecutive outings, the right-hander has permitted at least four runs in four of them. Pallante has a lackluster 5.34 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 104:57 K:BB across 155 innings in 2025.

Cincinnati Reds vs. St. Louis Cardinals Game Pick

Spread pick for Reds vs. Cardinals

  • Cincinnati Reds -1.5 (4 units)

Cincinnati is in a dogfight at the bottom of the National League wild card standings, and they find themselves two games behind the New York Mets for the third and final spot. They face Andre Pallante in the final game of this series, and he has looked shaky over the last month. The 26-year-old right-hander went without recording a strikeout the previous week for the second time in his last seven starts. This is also the fifth start where Pallante has recorded one or fewer strikeouts. He has three walks per game in four of his previous six starts. Cincinnati has won five of six facing NL foes. Take the Reds by two.

Over/Under Pick for Reds vs. Cardinals

  • UNDER (5 units)

The Cardinals have been a mediocre club all season, indicative of their 73-78 record leading into this meeting. They had a power outage after the All-Star break. Their .652 OPS after the All-Star break is nearly 75 points lower than pre-break. Over 13 games in September, they have a miserable .620 OPS, and they are falling deeper out of the wild card race. Although both pitchers have been average lately, the Cardinals ' offense has been impossible to trust over the last three weeks. Take the under.
