The Cleveland Guardians will visit the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET, with the game televised on FOX and also available on MLB.TV. Cleveland enters the weekend at 57-59 overall and 29-28 on the road, while Chicago is 59-55 overall and 34-21 at home. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Starting Pitchers

Cleveland is scheduled to start Gavin Williams, who enters at 11-6 with a 3.56 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 139.0 innings. Williams has allowed 106 hits and 21 home runs while recording an impressive 178 strikeouts against only 39 walks. He has been one of the more dependable pieces of the Cleveland rotation, and his ability to limit baserunners gives the Guardians a significant starting pitching advantage Saturday.

Chicago will counter with Anthony Kay, who is 8-5 with a 4.01 ERA and 1.35 WHIP through 110.0 innings. Kay has allowed 107 hits and 14 home runs while recording 90 strikeouts against 42 walks. His numbers have been respectable, but Williams owns advantages in ERA, WHIP and strikeouts. Kay will need to limit traffic against a Cleveland offense looking to recover from a difficult series against New York.

Guardians Look to End Three-Game Losing Streak

Cleveland enters the weekend at 57-59 overall and 29-28 on the road. The Guardians are 1-4 over their last five completed games and have lost three straight. Cleveland was swept by the Mets in its previous series, falling 6-2, 6-5 in 10 innings and 13-6. Before that series, the Guardians split their final two games against Arizona, winning 5-0 after losing 12-8.

The Guardians are batting .232 with a .312 on-base percentage and .368 slugging percentage this season. Cleveland has scored 459 runs on 891 hits while hitting 110 home runs. The pitching staff has been the stronger part of the team, carrying a 3.82 ERA and 1.27 WHIP while recording 1,077 strikeouts against 378 walks. Opposing hitters are batting .240 against Cleveland pitching.

Cleveland's biggest issue is an offense that has struggled to consistently provide enough support for a quality pitching staff. The Guardians have scored 85 fewer runs and hit 38 fewer home runs than Chicago this season. Williams gives Cleveland a strong opportunity to control the early innings, but the Guardians will need more production from an offense that has been below Chicago in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

White Sox Return Home Looking to Stop Their Slide

Chicago enters the weekend at 59-55 overall and has been considerably better at Rate Field, where the White Sox are 34-21. Chicago is also 1-4 over its last five completed games and has lost three consecutive contests. The White Sox were swept in Boston, losing 14-2, 4-0 and 12-11 in 13 innings. Before that series, Chicago defeated Tampa Bay 9-1 after dropping a 1-0 decision against the Rays.

The White Sox are batting .237 with a .316 on-base percentage and .404 slugging percentage. Chicago has scored 544 runs on 909 hits while hitting 148 home runs. The pitching staff owns a 4.10 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 967 strikeouts and 416 walks. Opposing hitters are batting .239 against White Sox pitching.

Chicago's power gives the White Sox their clearest offensive advantage in this matchup. They have hit 38 more home runs than Cleveland and scored 85 more runs. The concern is a pitching staff that has been less effective than Cleveland's, particularly with Williams starting for the Guardians. Still, Chicago's 34-21 home record and stronger offensive production make the White Sox difficult to dismiss despite their three-game losing streak.

Cleveland Guardians vs Chicago White Sox Picks and Prediction

  • Pick: Cleveland Guardians Moneyline

I'm taking the Cleveland Guardians on the moneyline. Chicago owns the better overall record, much stronger home record and the superior offensive numbers, but the starting pitching matchup is enough to push me toward Cleveland in what should be a competitive game.

Williams enters at 11-6 with a 3.56 ERA and excellent 1.04 WHIP while recording 178 strikeouts through 139 innings. Kay has a 4.01 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with only 90 strikeouts. Cleveland also owns the better team ERA and WHIP. The Guardians need their offense to do enough against Kay, but with Williams on the mound, I'll take Cleveland to end its three-game losing streak.

  • Pick: Under 8.5

I'm taking the Under if the total is set around 8.5. Williams is the primary reason for the selection. He has a 3.56 ERA and 1.04 WHIP while allowing only 106 hits through 139 innings, and Cleveland's pitching staff has posted a 3.82 ERA for the season.

Chicago has the power to make the Under uncomfortable, but the White Sox have also been shut out twice over their last five games. Cleveland has struggled offensively throughout the season, batting .232 while averaging fewer than four runs per game based on its season totals. With Williams capable of limiting Chicago and Cleveland's offense facing a respectable starter in Kay, I prefer the Under at 8.5.
