The Cleveland Guardians visit the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on Friday, September 25, 2026. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 PM ET with coverage on MLB.TV. Cleveland enters at 82-76 overall and 41-36 on the road, while Kansas City is 68-90 overall and 40-37 at home. The Guardians hold a one-game lead atop the AL Central despite losing 1-0 to Boston in their most recent completed game, while the Royals sit fifth in the division after snapping a four-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the White Sox. The season series is tied 5-5, making Friday the 11th meeting between the clubs. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Starting Pitchers

Cleveland is scheduled to start Tanner Bibee, who enters at 6-15 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through 182 innings. He has allowed 168 hits and 29 home runs while striking out 142 and walking 54. Kansas City counters with Noah Cameron, who is 9-8 with a 3.92 ERA and 1.20 WHIP through 172.1 innings. He has surrendered 153 hits and 19 home runs while recording 155 strikeouts against 54 walks. Cameron holds the statistical advantage in ERA, WHIP, strikeouts and home-run prevention, although both pitchers have provided significant innings for their respective rotations. The biggest concern on the Cleveland side is the 29 home runs allowed, while Kansas City's starter has been considerably better at keeping the ball in the park.

Cleveland's Pitching Gives the Guardians an Edge

Cleveland enters the series at 82-76 overall with a solid 41-36 record away from home. The Guardians have won four of their last five games despite coming off a 1-0 loss at Boston. Before that defeat, Cleveland won 3-2 in Boston and swept three games from the Athletics by scores of 1-0, 12-6 and 5-3. The Guardians have scored 21 runs and allowed only 12 across their last five games, with their pitching staff holding opponents to two runs or fewer in three of those contests.

The Guardians are batting .238 with 652 runs, 1,255 hits and 152 home runs this season. They carry a .315 on-base percentage and .376 slugging percentage, numbers that explain why Cleveland has occasionally struggled to generate consistent offense. The pitching staff has been the foundation of the team's success, posting a 3.75 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while holding opponents to a .237 batting average. Cleveland has also recorded 1,498 strikeouts against 517 walks and owns a 51-48 record in night games.

Cleveland's biggest advantage is its ability to prevent runs. The Guardians hold a 0.97-run advantage in team ERA over Kansas City and have allowed opposing hitters to bat 23 points lower. Their 1,498 strikeouts also dwarf Kansas City's 1,149. The offense does not provide a huge margin for error, especially against a quality opposing starter, but Cleveland has repeatedly demonstrated that it can win lower-scoring games. That formula becomes especially important on the road against a Kansas City team that has actually played above .500 at Kauffman Stadium.

Kansas City Looks to Build on a Home Victory

Kansas City comes into Friday at 68-90 overall but has been substantially more competitive at home, where the Royals are 40-37. They snapped a four-game losing streak Wednesday with a 5-4 victory over the White Sox after dropping a wild 14-11 game one night earlier. Kansas City was also swept in Pittsburgh before returning home, losing those three contests by scores of 4-3, 6-5 and 8-5. The Royals are just 1-4 over their last five, although they have scored 28 runs during that stretch.

The Royals are batting .246 with 672 runs, 1,306 hits and 164 home runs. Kansas City owns a .316 on-base percentage and .399 slugging percentage, giving the Royals modest advantages over Cleveland in each major offensive category. Pitching has been a much different story. Kansas City carries a 4.72 team ERA and 1.40 WHIP while opponents are batting .260. The staff has issued 558 walks against only 1,149 strikeouts, and the Royals are 44-59 in night games.

Kansas City's clearest opportunity comes from combining its home-field performance with the better statistical starting pitcher. The Royals have won more games than they have lost at Kauffman Stadium despite being 22 games under .500 overall, and their offense has also been productive recently. The problem is what happens once the game moves beyond the favorable starting matchup. Kansas City's season-long pitching numbers are substantially weaker than Cleveland's, creating a difficult path if the Guardians can stay close through the early and middle innings.

Cleveland Guardians vs Kansas City Royals Picks and Prediction

Pick: Cleveland Guardians Moneyline

Kansas City has two meaningful advantages in this matchup: the better starting-pitcher numbers and a 40-37 home record. Even so, Cleveland is the side I prefer because the Guardians have been far more reliable over the full season and possess a substantial overall pitching advantage. Cleveland enters 14 games ahead of Kansas City in the standings, has a winning road record and has won four of its last five. The Guardians' 3.75 team ERA compares favorably with Kansas City's 4.72 mark, while Cleveland also owns advantages in WHIP, opponent batting average and strikeouts. With the season series tied 5-5, there has been little separation head-to-head, but Cleveland's ability to suppress offense gives the Guardians the better chance of surviving a potentially difficult opening five innings and taking control later.

Pick: Under 8.5 or Higher

There are competing signals on the total, but the starting matchup and Cleveland's recent run prevention push me toward the under at 8.5 or better. Kansas City's starter enters with a 3.92 ERA and 1.20 WHIP and has allowed only 19 home runs through 172.1 innings, which should help against a Cleveland offense producing just a .376 slugging percentage. Cleveland has allowed only 12 total runs across its last five games and owns a 3.75 team ERA for the season. Kansas City's recent scoring surge and weaker pitching staff introduce some danger, but Cleveland has played three games in its last five in which the teams combined for five runs or fewer. If the market posts 8.5 or higher, the under provides enough cushion for a matchup that has the ingredients for a relatively controlled night offensively.

Final Picks: Cleveland Guardians Moneyline and Under 8.5 or Higher
