Guardians Are on a 13-1 Heater
The Cleveland Guardians have been the hottest team in baseball over the last two weeks. They’re in the midst of a 13-1 run, which has catapulted them into playoff contention as we enter the final week of the season. What once looked like an A.L. Central that belonged to the Tigers is no more, as the Guardians (82-71) have closed the gap to just 2.5 games heading into Saturday. The Guardians have now won eight consecutive games, including beating the Royals (3-2), sweeping both the White Sox (3-0, 3-1, 3-2) and the Tigers (7-5, 4-0, 3-1), and taking care of the Twins (6-2) on Friday night.
Friday’s 6-2 win over the Twins saw Bo Naylor emerge as the hero. The catcher drove in four RBI in a 2-for-4 day at the dish. Parker Messick (5.1 IP, 2 ER) was sharp in his start, but it was Jakob Junis (2.0 IP, 0 ER) who earned the win in relief.
- Logan Allen is listed to start Saturday’s second game, and the 27-year-old has been serviceable, but not overpowering in 2025.
- In 28 appearances (144.1 IP), the left-hander has gone 7-11 with a 4.36 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP.
- Allen last pitched on September 10th against the Royals, and he held them to two runs (one earned) on five hits over 5.0 innings.
- It was a no-decision effort in a 4-3 defeat.

Twins Sliding Down the Standings
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Twins were expected to compete in the American League Central this season, but due to injuries and flat-out underperforming play on the field, this team is on the outside looking in. In fact, Minnesota, who is 66-87, is now the second-worst team in the A.L. Only the White Sox are worse at 58-96. The Twins have lost their last five series, and they’re coming off of a 6-2 defeat on Friday night against the Guardians.
Minnesota’s struggling bullpen had another collapse on Friday night. This time it was Cole Sands (0.2 IP, 2 ER) who took the loss in relief. The Twins actually out-hit the Guardians 9-6, but they left six runners on base. Royce Lewis went 2-for-4 with an RBI single.
- Bailey Ober heads to the bump on Saturday, and the 30-year-old hasn’t been great in 25 starts (135.1 IP) this year.
- The right-hander is 5-8 with a 5.12 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP.
- Ober last pitched on Sunday against the Diamondbacks, and he gave up four earned runs on four hits over 6.0 innings.
- He took the loss in a 6-4 defeat.
Guardians vs. Twins Pick
Moneyline Pick for Guardians vs. Twins
- Cleveland Guardians Moneyline (5 units)
The Guardians have been on a tear recently, winning 13 of their last 14 games. They need a win against this underperforming Twins team to stay in contention for the playoffs, and I’m willing to wager that they get it.
Mostly, I’m looking to fade Bailey Ober and this horrendous Minnesota bullpen. Ober brings in a 5.12 ERA on the year, and that number has climbed to 5.48 in his last four outings (21.1 IP). Additionally, Minnesota’s bullpen has been a complete liability recently. Since August 1st, they’re 26th in ERA (5.25) and 29th in WHIP (1.53). Cleveland’s offense should muster up enough offense to secure the victory in game two.
Over/Under Pick for Guardians vs. Twins
- Under (5 units)
While Ober hasn’t been great this season, he has excelled against the Guardians in the past. Their current roster is slashing just .192/.218/.333 against him over 120 at-bats. On the flip side, the current Twins roster is slashing just .083/.214/.083 against Logan Allen over 12 at-bats.
Runs have been tough to come by for both of these teams this season. Cleveland is 27th in runs per game (3.91), while Minnesota is a pedestrian 18th (4.30). Being that the Guardians are a pitching-first organization, I expect them to lean on their excellent arms to secure the win and keep this game under the total. Give me the under.
