Rockies' Disastrous Season nearly over
Colorado was unable to match the firepower of Seattle as they fell in a 9-2 final. The Rockies struck out 11 times as they logged just two hits. Blaine Crim led the way with a home run in the 4th. He's hitting just under .290 on the season. Tanner Gordon got the start, and over 3.1 innings, he struck out three and allowed seven runs.

RHP German Marquez is expected to take the mound for the Colorado Rockies. This season, Marquez holds a 3-15 record, logging two of his wins on the road. He's struggled with ball command as he's walked 10 over his last five starts. Marquez has also given up the long ball at a high rate, allowing six home runs over his last five road starts. He'll need to control his pitches here if he wants to give the Rockies bats a chance.
On the road this season, Marquez posts the following stats:
- ERA: 6.96
- Opponent Batting Average (OBA): .330
- BB/K Ratio: 0.45
Colorado enters this contest averaging 2.89 runs per game, which lands them at 30th in the league. The Rockies are much weaker on the road as their batting average falls to .219, and fewer than half of their home runs and extra-base hits came on the road. They have hit an average in afternoon games, where home runs sailed at an above-average clip.Β Home runs were few and far between for the offense last season, and poor plate discipline has seen the Rockies drop to the bottom five in both walks received and strikeouts per game. They will need to keep their plate composure here.
Giants have lost four straight series
San Francisco played the role of spoiler, eliminating St. Louis from postseason contention as they took game three in a 4-3 final. The Giants struck out nine times, but finished with 11 hits as eight players logged a hit. Casey Schmitt led the way with three hits, and Rafael Devers added a home run in the 3rd. JT Brubaker got the start, and over four innings, he struck out four and allowed two runs.
RHP Trevor McDonald is expected to take the mound for the San Francisco Giants. McDonald will be making his 2nd start of the season, and he holds a no-decision record with a 3.38 ERA.Β McDonald has struck out four batters while issuing two walks. It will be his first home start of the season, but his last night game was forgettable as he finished with a 9.0 ERA, over just two innings.
This season, McDonald holds the following splits:
- ERA: 3.38
- Opponent Batting Average (OBA): .290
- BB/K Ratio: 0.5
San Francisco enters this contest averaging 5.0 runs per game, which lands them at 7th in the league. The Giants have struggled with consistency at the plate this season and are currently sitting in the bottom 10 in overall batting average. The Giants have been hitting even more weakly on the road, but more than half of their home runs have come away from home. San Francisco has been hitting their strongest in afternoon games this season. On the plus side, home runs have been coming at a much higher rate than the league average. San Francisco's problems begin at the plate, though. They are sitting in the bottom 10 in strikeout rate, but their ability to hit for extra bases has often made their offense lethal.
Rockies vs. Giants Pick
Money Line Prediction for Rockies vs Giants
- Giants ML (4 Units)
The Giants have hit their best both at home and during night games this season. While home runs may not be prevalent, Marquez has been allowing at least one per start on average this season on the road over his last five games. San Francisco's poise at the plate will allow them to wait for their pitch, and with the Rockies sitting at the bottom 10 in walks received and strikeouts per game, their inconsistencies could prove fruitful to the Giants' pitching staff.

Total Prediction for Rockies vs Giants
- Under 8.5 (4 Units)
Both of these teams have been hitting weaker this month, relative to their season averages. The Giants are hitting right around one home run per game, but they've fallen to the bottom 10 when it comes to driving runners home. Colorado hasn't been able to figure it out at the plate, and while they have hit better on the road, fewer than half of their home run and extra base hits are coming away from home this season. The Giants' bullpen has done a solid job in terms of limiting the long ball as well. Expect both offenses to be slow out of the gate.
