Rockies Just Want It To End

The Rockies couldn’t keep pace in Friday’s 6-3 loss, managing only five hits while striking out 13 times against San Francisco pitching. Hunter Goodman had the biggest swing for Colorado with a two-run double in the seventh inning, and Brenton Doyle added an RBI single, but the lineup was largely quiet otherwise. Cal Quantrill took the loss after surrendering five runs in 4.1 innings, and the bullpen allowed just one more run the rest of the way.

Friday’s loss dropped Colorado to 64-96, underscoring the growing pains of a roster still in development. Their offense has had trouble sustaining rallies away from Coors Field, and the strikeout issues remain a major hurdle. Doyle has provided flashes with both his bat and glove, while Goodman and Ezequiel Tovar continue to show potential as everyday contributors. Still, the Rockies have been outscored by wide margins on the road throughout September.

On Saturday, Colorado will counter with left-hander Kyle Freeland, who has battled inconsistency throughout the season. Freeland’s command and ability to induce soft contact will be critical against a Giants lineup that punished mistakes in the opener. For Colorado to stay competitive, Freeland will need to work deep into the game and keep the ball in the yard, while the lineup looks for sparks from Goodman, Doyle, and Tovar. Generating traffic on the bases early could give them a chance to support their starter and apply pressure on Verlander.

No Postseason For The Giants

The Giants grabbed a 6-3 win on Friday night to open the series, using timely power and a dominant start to stay in control. Willy Adames gave San Francisco an early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning, while Heliot Ramos added a solo shot in the fifth. Jorge Soler drove in two more runs with base hits, and the Giants finished with nine hits overall. Rookie Trevor McDonald was excellent, striking out 10 batters across seven innings while allowing just two runs on four hits. Camilo Doval locked down his 36th save with a scoreless ninth.

That victory moved San Francisco to 79-81 on the year, as they continue to close the season strong despite being eliminated from postseason contention. The Giants’ offense has shown good balance lately, with Ramos emerging as a steady contributor and Adames delivering pop in the middle of the order. Their pitching staff has also stabilized, with McDonald’s outing giving the bullpen much-needed rest and Doval continuing to thrive in the closer role.

On Saturday, the Giants are set to give the ball to veteran Justin Verlander, who brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record. Verlander’s ability to command the zone and mix speeds makes him a challenging assignment for any lineup, and he’ll look to build on McDonald’s strong effort from the opener. San Francisco will try to replicate their formula from Friday: get early production from the middle of the order and put their starter in position to pitch with a lead.

Colorado Rockies vs San Francisco Giants Pick

Rockies vs Giants Moneyline Pick

  • San Francisco -1.5 (4 Units)

The Giants enter Saturday’s matchup with confidence after a 6-3 win in the opener, and Justin Verlander gives them a major edge on the mound. Verlander has the ability to work deep into games while limiting hard contact, something that should play well against a Colorado lineup that struck out 13 times on Friday and has struggled all season away from Coors Field. San Francisco’s offense is also in good form, with Willy Adames and Heliot Ramos both going deep last night and Jorge Soler driving in runs from the middle of the order.

Colorado turns to Kyle Freeland, who has had difficulty keeping hitters off base and limiting damage in key spots. Against a Giants lineup that thrives when mistakes are left over the plate, Freeland could be in for a tough assignment. The Rockies’ offense has rarely been able to provide consistent support on the road, and facing Verlander only compounds that challenge. With the Giants showing balance on both sides and a clear pitching advantage, they are well-positioned to cover the -1.5 run line.

Rockies vs Giants Over/Under Pick

  • Under 8 (5 Units)

With Saturday’s total set at 8, the Under has value given the pitching matchup of Justin Verlander against Kyle Freeland. Verlander’s track record of limiting damage should keep Colorado’s bats in check, especially since the Rockies have struggled to score consistently on the road and managed just five hits in Friday’s loss. While the Giants’ offense has been productive, Freeland is capable of working to contact and generating outs when he’s on his game. With both lineups prone to scoring droughts, this matchup sets up well to stay under the number.
