Starting Pitchers

Detroit is scheduled to start Jackson Jobe, who enters at 1-1 with a 3.93 ERA and 1.42 WHIP through 18.1 innings. Jobe has allowed 18 hits while recording 15 strikeouts against eight walks and has surrendered two home runs. Minnesota counters with Taj Bradley, who is 9-6 with a 3.97 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 147.1 innings. Bradley has allowed 125 hits while striking out 169 against 63 walks and has surrendered 20 home runs. The ERA numbers are nearly identical, but Minnesota's starter has a much larger workload and the lower WHIP.

Tigers Lean on Stronger Season-Long Pitching

Detroit enters Monday at 63-72 and has gone 2-3 over its last five completed games. The Tigers' most recent result was a 2-1 victory after losing three of their previous four. Every one of Detroit's last five completed games finished with five total runs or fewer, including results of 2-1, 2-1, 3-0, 4-1 and 4-1.

The Tigers are batting .239 as a team with 595 runs, 1,086 hits and 155 home runs. They have a .316 on-base percentage and .400 slugging percentage. Detroit trails Minnesota slightly in most offensive categories, but the gap between the teams at the plate is relatively small.

Pitching is where Detroit owns its clearest statistical advantage. The Tigers carry a 3.56 team ERA and 1.22 WHIP while holding opponents to a .232 batting average. They have issued 419 walks while recording 1,090 strikeouts. Those numbers are significantly stronger than Minnesota's pitching profile.

Detroit's recent run prevention has been particularly impressive. The Tigers have allowed only 11 total runs across their last five completed games, including three games in which the opponent scored one run or fewer. That gives Detroit a legitimate chance to keep Monday's matchup close even with Minnesota owning the better home record.

Twins Try to End a Four-Game Losing Streak

Minnesota enters Monday at 64-72 overall and has dropped four straight games. The Twins are 1-4 over their last five completed contests, with their only victory during that span coming by a 9-6 score. Since then, Minnesota has lost 4-2, 7-4, 7-4 and 3-2.

The Twins are batting .246 with 621 runs, 1,125 hits and 157 home runs. They own a .318 on-base percentage and .405 slugging percentage. Minnesota holds modest advantages over Detroit in batting average, runs scored, hits, home runs, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

The pitching staff has been a much bigger problem. Minnesota owns a 4.68 team ERA and 1.39 WHIP while allowing opposing hitters to bat .253. The staff has issued 497 walks and recorded 1,126 strikeouts. Compared with Detroit's 3.56 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, that is a substantial gap.

Minnesota does have the stronger record in the season series, winning five of the seven meetings played so far. However, Detroit won the most recent matchup in dominant fashion, and the Twins enter this game on a four-game slide. The home field helps Minnesota, but its recent form and weaker pitching profile make this a more difficult matchup than the standings alone suggest.

Detroit Tigers vs Minnesota Twins Picks and Prediction

Pick: Detroit Tigers Moneyline

Detroit is the preferred side if the moneyline offers reasonable value. The Tigers have the much stronger season-long pitching numbers, carrying a 3.56 ERA and 1.22 WHIP compared with Minnesota at 4.68 and 1.39. Detroit has also allowed only 11 runs across its last five completed games, while Minnesota enters on a four-game losing streak. The Twins own the better home record and lead the season series, but Detroit's pitching advantage is large enough to support the road underdog. Take Detroit on the moneyline once the market becomes available.

Pick: Under 8

The recent Detroit results point strongly toward a lower-scoring game. Each of the Tigers' last five completed contests finished with five runs or fewer, and Detroit has allowed just 2.2 runs per game across that span. Both scheduled starters also enter with ERAs below 4.00. Minnesota's weaker team pitching creates some Over risk, but its recent offense has not been overwhelming and Detroit has been consistently involved in low-scoring games. Take the Under if the total is set at 8 or higher.

Final Picks: Detroit Tigers Moneyline and Under 8
