The Detroit Tigers will face the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, on Wednesday evening. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET, with Mariners.TV and Detroit SportsNet providing television coverage. Detroit entered Tuesday at 54-58, while Seattle stood at 55-58. Starting Pitchers

Detroit did have Troy Melton listed as the starter, but after the recent trades he was moved up to start on Tuesday, which leaves the starter position in this game undecided. Woo owns a 7-8 record with a 4.56 ERA and 122 strikeouts. With Detroit not announcing the starter yet, it will be difficult to see if the Tigers are able to continue to carry the strong pitching into the game here that they would have had with Melton.

Detroit Carries a Powerful Winning Streak Into Seattle

Detroit entered Tuesday having won four of its previous five games, including three consecutive victories. The Tigers completed a dominant sweep of the Athletics by winning 13-1, 8-6, and 11-0. Detroit scored 32 runs during the three-game series while allowing only seven. The sweep improved the Tigers to 54-58 and kept them within reach of the American League wild-card race despite their decision to move two established starting pitchers before the trade deadline.

The Tigers are averaging 4.5 runs per game while batting .242. Detroit has recorded 138 home runs but only 34 stolen bases, making power considerably more important than speed within its offensive approach. The pitching staff owns a 3.59 ERA and has held opposing batters to a .232 average. Those numbers compare favorably with Seattle’s marks in nearly every significant category.

Detroit’s key will be maintaining its offensive momentum while adjusting to the more pitcher-friendly conditions at T-Mobile Park. The Tigers scored at least eight runs in each game of their sweep, but they should not expect that level of production against Seattle. If the Tigers starter prevents Seattle from creating an early advantage, the visitors should be able to apply pressure against Woo and his 4.56 ERA.

Seattle Returns Home Following Consecutive Victories

Seattle entered Tuesday having won two of its previous five games. The Mariners lost two games against the Dodgers before opening their home series against Minnesota with a 5-3 defeat. Seattle recovered by earning consecutive one-run victories, winning 4-3 and 7-6. The Mariners erased a three-run deficit in Sunday’s finale and scored twice during the bottom of the ninth inning to complete the comeback.

The Mariners are averaging four runs per game while batting .231. Seattle has produced 132 home runs and 82 stolen bases, giving its offense greater baserunning ability than Detroit’s lineup. The pitching staff carries a 3.75 ERA while allowing opposing hitters to bat .242. Seattle consequently trails the Tigers in scoring average, batting average, home runs, team ERA, and opponent batting average.

Woo must provide Seattle with a stronger performance than his season ERA suggests. His 122 strikeouts demonstrate an ability to miss bats, but Detroit enters after producing 41 hits and 32 runs during its sweep in Sacramento. Seattle cannot afford to place its offense in another immediate deficit against the Tigers pitching. Woo must limit home-run damage and force the Tigers to create runs through sustained rallies rather than one decisive swing.

Detroit Tigers vs Seattle Mariners Picks and Prediction

  • Pick: Detroit Tigers Moneyline

I am taking Detroit on the moneyline. Seattle owns home-field advantage and entered Tuesday with consecutive victories, but nearly every relevant statistical comparison favors the Tigers. Detroit scores half a run more per game, carries the better batting average, and owns the lower team ERA. Detroit also enters with three consecutive victories in which its offense produced 32 combined runs. The Tigers offer the better side behind their starting-pitching advantage.

  • Pick: Under 8.5

I also favor Under 8.5 runs if that becomes the posted total. Detroit’s recent offensive production makes the under somewhat uncomfortable. Seattle averages only four runs per game while batting .231, and Detroit’s pitching staff has limited opponents to a .232 average. Woo’s ERA creates risk, but T-Mobile Park and Seattle’s respectable 3.75 team ERA should help control the overall scoring. I expect Detroit to earn a victory near 5-2, keeping the matchup below the target number.
