Houston enters at 77-79 overall and 38-37 on the road, while Seattle is 73-83 overall and 40-35 at home. The Astros have lost three straight and four of their last five, while Seattle has won three of its last five. Starting Pitchers

Houston is scheduled to start Cristian Javier, who enters at 2-6 with a 5.31 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 61 innings. He has allowed 63 hits and 10 home runs while recording 57 strikeouts against 26 walks. Seattle counters with Logan Gilbert, who is 12-10 with a 3.69 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through 178 innings. He has surrendered 143 hits and 28 home runs while piling up 194 strikeouts against 46 walks. Gilbert owns the stronger statistical profile with a considerably lower ERA and WHIP, and his ability to limit baserunners provides Seattle with an important advantage. Javier has allowed more than a baserunner and a half per inning when hits and walks are combined, while Gilbert has displayed excellent control over a much larger workload.

Astros Need to Reverse Their September Slide

Houston enters Tuesday at 77-79 and remains within striking distance of the AL West lead despite its recent struggles. The Astros are 38-37 away from home but have dropped three consecutive games and four of their last five. Houston's lone victory during that stretch was a 6-2 decision, while its four losses came by scores of 5-2, 6-2, 6-3 and 4-2. The Astros have scored only 15 runs while allowing 23 across those five contests, and they have failed to score more than three runs in each of their last three games.

Houston is batting .240 this season with 688 runs, 1,255 hits and 209 home runs. The Astros have posted a .313 on-base percentage and .410 slugging percentage, with their 209 homers giving them a significant power advantage over Seattle's 179. The pitching staff has been less reliable, producing a 4.53 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Houston pitchers have issued 626 walks while recording 1,359 strikeouts and holding opposing hitters to a .238 batting average.

The Astros' power remains their most obvious path to turning this matchup around, but their recent offensive production and Tuesday's starting matchup create concerns. Houston has managed only two runs in three of its last four games, and Seattle has already won nine of the first 11 meetings between these clubs. The Astros' .238 opponent batting average is respectable, but their 626 walks have created additional traffic on the bases. With the starting pitching numbers also favoring Seattle, Houston will need its power production to overcome several statistical disadvantages.

Mariners Have Controlled the Season Series

Seattle comes into Tuesday at 73-83 overall but has performed much better at T-Mobile Park, where the Mariners are 40-35. They are 3-2 over their last five games, with victories of 2-1, 5-4 and 7-2. Seattle scored 18 runs and allowed 14 during that stretch. The Mariners have also consistently gotten the better of Houston this season, winning nine of 11 head-to-head meetings, including five of the six games played during the April and May portions of the series.

The Mariners are batting .232 with 634 runs, 1,202 hits and 179 home runs while producing a .312 on-base percentage and .380 slugging percentage. Those offensive numbers trail Houston in most categories, but Seattle has been better on the mound. The Mariners own a 4.19 team ERA and 1.26 WHIP while allowing opponents to bat .251. Seattle has issued only 415 walks compared with Houston's 626 while recording 1,328 strikeouts.

Seattle's strongest case Tuesday comes from the combination of starting pitching, home-field performance and head-to-head results. The Mariners have a winning home record despite sitting 10 games below .500 overall, and their pitching staff has been more efficient at limiting free passes. They also enter with the superior starting-pitching numbers and have repeatedly found ways to beat Houston throughout the season. Seattle does not possess Houston's overall home-run production, but the Mariners have enough pitching advantages to compensate for the offensive gap.

Houston Astros vs Seattle Mariners Picks and Prediction

Pick: Seattle Mariners Moneyline

Seattle is the preferred side because several of the strongest matchup indicators point toward the Mariners. They are 40-35 at home, have won nine of 11 against Houston this season and enter with a significant starting-pitching advantage. Houston has lost three straight and four of five while scoring just 15 runs during that stretch. The Astros have more season-long power, but Seattle's lower team ERA and WHIP, substantially lower walk total and stronger starting profile make the Mariners the better moneyline position in Tuesday night's matchup.

Pick: Under 8.5 or Higher

The under becomes attractive at 8.5 or higher because neither offense has been consistently productive recently and Seattle enters with the stronger run-prevention setup. The Mariners have allowed only 14 runs over their last five games, while Houston has scored three runs or fewer in four of its last five. Seattle has also scored just 18 runs during its own five-game stretch, so this does not profile as a matchup where both offenses are entering in explosive form. Houston's power creates some danger, but the combination of Seattle's starting advantage and the recent scoring trends makes Under 8.5 or higher the preferred total.

Final Picks: Seattle Mariners Moneyline and Under 8.5 or Higher
