Houston Astros vs Texas Rangers Picks and Prediction

In the closing game of a three-game American League West series, the Houston Astros are taking on the Texas Rangers inside Globe Life Field on Sunday afternoon in our Astros vs. Rangers prediction. This article is being written ahead of Saturday’s game. The Astros are first in the AL West with a 77-65 record and are sending right-hander Luis Garcia to the mound. The Rangers are third in the AL West with a 73-69 record and have veteran southpaw Patrick Corbin getting the ball. Today’s edge: MLB predictions for the Houston Astros vs the Texas Rangers with form and matchup notes.

Astros Looking to Shake Off Recent Slide

The Houston Astros are looking to recover after their 4-3 12-inning road loss against the Texas Rangers on Friday. The lineup was able to go 9-for-43 with a pair of walks and 11 strikeouts on the day as Carlos Correa hit a home run. Houston went just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine men on base. Colton Gordon did not factor into the decision as he pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three runs.

The Astros are sending right-hander Luis Garcia to pitch and he is coming off his 2025 debut as he pitched six innings and allowed three runs on three hits with zero walks and six strikeouts over six innings against the Los Angeles Angels in a victory. He has shown to be a solid pitcher throughout his career but it will be interesting to see the length he can give here. Garcia faced the Rangers once in 2023 in a losing effort as he pitched five innings and gave up five runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Rangers Looking to Gain Ground in Playoff Race

The Texas Rangers are looking to continue playing well after Friday’s 4-3 walk-off home win in 12 innings against the Houston Astros in their most recent game. Texas was only 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position while leaving 15 men on base. Merrill Kelly pitched well in a no-decision as he allowed one run over seven innings.

Veteran lefty Patrick Corbin is going to be taking the mound for the Rangers in this game and has been struggling a bit as he is 7-9 with a 4.48 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP in 136.2 innings over 26 starts. He has been able to limit the number of hits allowed as he has a .266 batting average against so far. Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers Pick

Spread Pick for Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers

  • Texas Rangers -105 (4 units)

This game is going to mean a lot as the Rangers are looking to lessen the division lead of the Astros and make a postseason berth. It has been a different story for Patrick Corbin on the road and at home this season as Corbin is 3-4 with a 3.20 ERA and a .245 batting average against in 64.2 innings (12 home starts). Both bullpens have been doing well, but there is a slight difference as the Astros are ninth in the bigs with a 3.74 reliever ERA while the Rangers are seventh with a 3.66 bullpen ERA thus far.

Over/Under Pick for Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers

  • Over (5 units)

Luis Garcia is a complete question mark coming off injury, while Patrick Corbin is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP in 32.0 innings during his previous seven starts. Both teams are scoring well since the Midsummer Classic, as the Rangers are averaging 4.82 runs in their 45 games while the Astros are scoring 3.87 runs in their 46 games. All in all, go with the over as the better bet to make for this game.
