Royals Continue To Aim For Wild Card
The Royals are coming off a loss on Sunday versus the Blue Jays with a final score of 8-5. Despite this loss, the Royals would still come out on top and grab the series win over the Blue Jays 2-1. This series win would be the first in four series, as the Royals have not grabbed a series win since their series against the Twins early this month.
Kansas City still holds out hope it can make a push for the wild card, but it looks progressively harder for them as they continue to pick up losses. The Royals are two spots out from a wild card spot with a winning percentage of .500. They trail the Ranger,s who are also hunting for a wild card spot with a winning percentage of .506. The problem is that the two bottom wild card spots held by the Guardians and Astros both have a winning percentage of .538 and it will be a tall ask for either of them to lose enough games to drop from the wild card. While the Royals are attempting to make a final push to the playoffs, I believe they will fall short.
Right-handed pitcher Stephen Kolek will be starting for the Royals on Wednesday.
Stephen Kolek:
- has a 5-6 record with an ERA of 3.54 and 75 strikeouts in 18 appearances this season.
- is 3-2 with an ERA of 2.31 and 46 strikeouts in 11 appearances on the road this season.

Angels’ Offense Keeps Them From Playoffs
The Angels picked up another loss on Sunday versus the Rockies with a final score of 3-1. This would lose the series against the Rockies 1-2 and would be the ninth loss in the last ten games for the Angels. Los Angeles has lost the last three series and has been swept in two of them.
Los Angeles is far removed from any chance at the playoffs this season and that has been due to their unreliable offense. At the plate this season the Angels rank 25th in runs and 29th in batting average at .226. Most of the runs generated for the Angels have come from home runs as the Angels sit 15th in slugging percentage at .398 and as a result rank fourth in home runs. However, this has not been enough to grab consistent runs and as a result has led to many losses this season, especially as of late. The Angels have averaged 2.44 runs per game in their last nine games with a batting average of .178.
The Angels have not confirmed a starting pitcher at the time of writing this article.
Royals vs Angels Prediction and Picks
Money Line Pick for Royals vs Angels
- Royals Money Line (4 units)
The Angels have a record of 2-4 in their last six games against the Royals at home. The Royals have a record of 6-4 against the AL West on the road this season. The Royals’ pitching has been their key to victory this season, ranking sixth overall in ERA at 3.77 and ranking eighth in home runs allowed. If the Angels are unable to produce runs thanks to home runs, I have severe doubts in their ability to generate runs in this series. The Royals are also motivated to attempt the wild card in their remaining games this season. I have to take the Royals to pick up this win against a struggling Angels’ offense.
Over/Under Pick for Royals vs Angels
- Under (5 units)
The Angels have an over/under record of 1-6 in their last seven games versus the Royals. Los Angeles is facing off against one of the better pitching cores this season, which allows very few home runs. If the Angels are unable to produce home runs, I doubt their ability to score many runs in this game. Kansas City has equally struggled this season on offense, but not due to a lack of hitting but rather the inability to bring runners home on base. This combination of two struggling offenses leads me to a low-scoring game.
