Starting Pitchers

George Klassen is scheduled to start for Los Angeles and enters at 1-1 with a 5.52 ERA and 2.11 WHIP through 14.2 innings. The right-hander has allowed 16 hits while recording 14 strikeouts and issuing 15 walks. Houston counters with Cristian Javier, who is 1-3 with a 6.68 ERA and 1.70 WHIP through 32.1 innings. The right-hander has surrendered 39 hits and six home runs while striking out 25 and walking 16. Neither starter has produced particularly strong numbers, with Klassen's control and Javier's overall run prevention creating concerns.

Angels Look to Overcome Their Road Problems

Los Angeles enters Tuesday at 49-76 overall and has struggled significantly away from home with a 20-40 road record. The Angels have been more competitive recently, winning three of their last five. They recorded a pair of shutout victories during that stretch before being blanked 3-0 in their most recent game.

The Angels are batting .235 with 507 runs, 981 hits, and 125 home runs. They own a .310 on-base percentage and .374 slugging percentage. Los Angeles has a 4.40 team ERA and 1.35 WHIP while opponents are batting .234.

Pitching has actually been slightly better for the Angels than Houston based on the season numbers, but offensive production remains an issue. Los Angeles has scored 69 fewer runs and hit 43 fewer home runs than the Astros. That lack of consistent offense becomes particularly concerning with the Angels carrying a 20-40 road record.

Houston Has an Opportunity to Get Back on Track

Houston enters at 63-62 overall and an even 31-31 at Daikin Park. The Astros have lost two straight and three of their last five, although their offense showed its potential when they scored 10 runs in a winagainst Seattle.

The Astros are batting .244 with 576 runs, 1,027 hits, and 168 home runs. Houston has a .319 on-base percentage and .413 slugging percentage. The pitching staff has been less reliable, carrying a 4.58 ERA and 1.36 WHIP while opponents are batting .239.

Houston's clearest advantage is offensive production. The Astros lead Los Angeles in batting average, runs, hits, home runs, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Their 168 home runs provide considerable power potential against a starter who has issued 15 walks in only 14.2 innings.

Los Angeles Angels vs Houston Astros Picks and Prediction

Pick: Houston Astros Moneyline

Houston is the preferred moneyline selection. The starting pitching matchup is difficult to trust on either side, making the broader team profiles more important. Houston owns the better overall record, has substantially more offensive power, and faces an Angels club that is only 20-40 away from home. Los Angeles has played better recently, but Houston's offensive advantages should give the Astros the edge in a matchup that could require plenty of run support.

Pick: Over 9

Take the over if the total is set at 9. Both scheduled starters enter with ERAs above 5.50 and WHIPs of at least 1.70. Klassen has also issued 15 walks in only 14.2 innings, while Javier has allowed 39 hits across 32.1 innings. Houston has the offensive profile to exploit those opportunities, while the Astros' 4.58 team ERA gives Los Angeles a reasonable opportunity to contribute. Over 9 is the preferred total.
