The Los Angeles Angels will host the Kansas City Royals for the second game of their series this Wednesday, and we'll preview the lines and odds in our Angels vs Royals prediction. Tuesday's series opener went to the Angels, with Los Angeles struggling to get on the board for the first five innings before surging late for a 5-1 win. What's Left for Angels in 2025?
The Los Angeles Angels are currently 65-73, fourth in the AL West, and 7.5 games back in the wildcard race. They're not eliminated from the playoffs, but they'd need a substantial push and a bigger stroke of luck to break into the playoff bracket with 24 games left to play. If that were to happen, it would likely require the Angels to beat the Royals several more times – Tuesday's 5-1 win was the first of three games in Kansas City; they'll play another three in Los Angeles near the end of the month.
The Angels' offense ranks 22nd in the league in runs (589), 29th in batting average (.229), and 21st in OPS (.704) for the season. Their pitching ranks 27th in ERA (4.72) and on-base percentage allowed (.261), as well as 29th in WHIP (1.43).
Caden Dana is up for the Angels on Wednesday. He's an extremely young pitcher – he won't turn 22 until December – and has only pitched in two games at the Major League level this season. Both were losses: the 6-8 loss to the Guardians in April and the 2-6 loss to the Marlins in May. Dana combined to throw 119 pitches across six innings in those games, giving up seven hits and five earned runs.

Can Royals Still Make a Push?
The Kansas City Royals aren't dead yet – they're 70-68, second behind the 80-60 Detroit Tigers in the AL Central, and only 2.5 games behind the Mariners for a wildcard berth. They haven't taken strides in their past several games, and they're 1-3 in their last four after losing 1-5 to the Angels, but there's still a runway to the playoffs this season if the Royals hurry up and prepare to take off on it.
The Royals' offense currently ties the Cleveland Guardians for 27th in runs (530), but they rank 18th in batting average (.246) and 23rd in OPS (.700). On the pitching side, they're fourth in ERA (3.66), and 11th in both opposing batting average (.241), and WHIP (.125).
Ryan Bergert will start for the Royals on Wednesday. He's 2-1 this season with a 2.67 ERA and 1.11 WHIP, and he pitched six innings in the team's 12-1 win over the White Sox a week ago.
Kansas City Royals -1.5 Run line (4 Units)
The Royals let Tuesday's game get away from them, but they're the superior team in this one and appear to have a much better answer at starting pitcher heading into this game. There are 24 games left in their season, and five left against the Angels – the Royals will come back and get their share of wins. I'd take Kansas City here and lay the 1.5 runs.
Under 9.0 (-110)
The Team Total Under is only 59-78-1 in Royals games this season and 0-4 in their last four games: a three-game home stand against Detroit and Tuesday's opener against the Angels. It's also 4-1 in the Angels' last fifteen games, including three against the Astros in which the game total didn't eclipse five total runs. These teams have spent far more of the season struggling to score than scoring at will; I'd take the under.
