Dodgers vs. Blue Jays predictions

It all comes down to this: Game 7 of the World Series and we’re getting you ready with our Dodgers vs. Blue Jays predictions for Saturday’s culmination of the baseball season. The Dodgers (12-5 in the postseason) pushed the series to the brink after beating Toronto (10-7 in postseason) 3-2 on Friday night. The final first pitch of the season is scheduled for 8:00 EST from the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Don’t go down on strikes! Get our top MLB Predictions and increase your bankroll!

Dodgers take it to the limit

On the brink of elimination, the Dodgers held on with all their might to force a deciding Game 7 in their pursuit of back-to-back titles.

Mookie Betts was able to bust out of a slump by going 1-3 with 2 RBIs and a walk. The shortstop went six games without an RBI and only four hits before snapping out of it with a key single in the third inning. Los Angeles had only four hits in Friday’s victory, and they struck out 12 times. In the World Series, the team is hitting .191 with 21 run,s and overall, in the postseason, .230 with 67 runs in 16 games. They have 21 home runs and 63 walks, but have also struck out 160 times. Shohei Ohtani had a double and scored a run in Game 6, upping his playoff average to .254 with 8 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 13 runs.

After a pair of down games, the Dodgers' pitching stepped up once again to carry the team to this point. Yoshinobu Yamamoto put the team on his back once again, and the bullpen held on over the final three innings. Game 3 starter Tyler Glasnow came on to nail down the save, recording three outs on three pitches. Given he was the likely Game 7 starter, the Dodgers are now scrambling to decide on who they’ll have on the mound to open the game. Ohtani last pitched four days ago, and he has yet to pitch on short rest since returning from Tommy John surgery. If not Ohtani, the team could try and squeeze a few more innings out of Glasnow, or open with the likes of Emmett Sheehan or even Clayton Kershaw.

Pitching spotlight

  • Dodgers' pitching had a 4.06 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in the World Series.
  • Anthony Banda appeared in four World Series games and surrendered six runs in three innings.
  • Los Angeles starters are 9-4 with a 2.48 ERA and 117 strikeouts in the postseason.
  • The bullpen is 3-0 with 5 saves and a 4.30 ERA.

Blue Jays miss chances

The Blue Jays returned home having two chances to win just one game and now they’ll be forced to use up their allotment of opportunities to try and capture their first title in 32 years.

Toronto thought they had squared the game up in the bottom of the ninth inning when an Addison Barger hit a ball to the gap that brought him and Alejandro Kirk around before it was ruled a ground-rule double as it lodged into the Rogers Centre wall. The game ended soon after with runners on second and third. Barger is hitting .357 in the postseason with 9 RBIs and 8 runs. The team as a whole is hitting .282 in the postseason but only .258 in the World Series. The team scored 101 runs with 62 extra-base hits. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a double on Friday night to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. He is hitting .412 in the playoffs with 8 home runs, 15 RBIs and 17 runs.

The Blue Jays squandered one of their best pitching performances of the playoffs, with a group of five hurlers combining to throw a four-hitter. Kevin Gausman gave the team a strong six innings before four relievers chipped in to cover the final three innings, allowing a combined hit and two walks. Toronto’s staff has a 3.05 ERA in the World Series and a 3.85 ERA in the playoffs. Starting pitching is 7-4 with a 3.40 ERA, and the bullpen has chipped in with 3 wins, 2 saves and a 4.36 ERA.

Starter spotlight

  • Max Scherzer will be making his 39th career playoff appearance and is 8-8 with a save and 3.82 ERA all-time.
  • In Game 3, the 41-year-old allowed three runs, five hits, two of which were home runs, and a walk in a no-decision.
  • In two playoff starts this season he has a 4.50 ERA and 8 strikeouts over 10 innings.
  • At the Rogers Centre, Scherzer is 7-2 with a 3.45 ERA in 16 career starts.

Dodgers vs. Blue Jays Picks

Money Line Pick for Dodgers vs. Blue Jays

  • Blue Jays +130 (5 units)

In a World Series that had an 18-inning marathon, big pitching and big hitting, it’s only fitting that it has gone to this point. The hosts should not feel terribly demoralized by Friday night’s loss as they put in a great performance and seemingly had tied things up late. They have the benefit of knowing who they will be starting in this game, something Los Angeles does not have. Scherzer has been in this very pitcher and will become one of only four pitchers all-time to start a winner-take-all Game 7, joining the likes of Bob Gibson, Lew Burdette and Don Larsen. Given the Dodgers' starting pitching conundrum, which may lead to them using their bullpen far sooner than they would want to, things are starting to line up against the defending champs. In this situation, I’m putting the onus on the experienced Scherzer to step up and do what he needs to put Toronto in a position to win.

Take the Blue Jays.

Over/Under Pick for Dodgers vs. Blue Jays

  • Under 7.5 (5 units)

Minus Toronto’s 11-run explosion in the first game of this series, no team has scored more than six runs in any game, and at least one of the teams scored two runs or less in four of them. Combined, they’ve averaged 6.7 runs per game. Toronto’s bats have produced a bit more this postseason, but the offense is hitting just .258 and they had only eight hits and a run on Friday. The Dodgers are hitting only .191 in the World Series, and with four hits in Game 6, it’s evident that the severity of the moment is only growing. Things are getting tighter by the minute, and the bats are getting smaller, as noted by the under hitting in the last two games. Tension doesn’t get any higher than this.

Take the under.
