By: Kim Smith Published 09/26/2026, 12:05 AM ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers visit the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 PM ET with coverage on MLB.TV. Los Angeles enters the weekend at 97-62 overall and 46-32 on the road, while San Francisco is 65-94 overall and 37-41 at home. The Dodgers lead the NL West by eight games over San Diego despite carrying a two-game losing streak, while the Giants sit fourth in the division and are 32 games back. Los Angeles leads the completed season series 6-4 and has won the last three completed meetings, outscoring San Francisco 21-7 during that stretch. Friday's series opener had not been completed at the time this preview was prepared and is excluded from the analysis. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Starting Pitchers

Los Angeles is scheduled to start Blake Snell, who enters at 4-1 with a 1.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through 38.2 innings. He has allowed only 26 hits and has not surrendered a home run while recording 52 strikeouts against 16 walks. San Francisco counters with Matt Wilkinson, who is 1-3 with a 3.65 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 24.2 innings. Wilkinson has allowed 21 hits and four home runs while recording 18 strikeouts against only four walks. Both starters have relatively limited workloads, but Los Angeles owns the more dominant strikeout profile and the substantially lower ERA. San Francisco's starter has displayed excellent control, yet the four home runs allowed in 24.2 innings are notable against a Dodgers offense with nearly 200 home runs this season.

Dodgers Still Hold the Broader Statistical Edge

Los Angeles enters Saturday at 97-62 overall and remains firmly in control of the NL West despite consecutive losses to San Diego. The Dodgers dropped a 5-1 decision Wednesday before losing 4-2 on Thursday, but those defeats followed victories of 7-0 over San Diego and 3-1 and 10-4 over San Francisco. Los Angeles is therefore 3-2 over its last five completed games and has scored 23 runs while allowing 14.

The Dodgers are batting .257 with 790 runs, 1,375 hits and 199 home runs. They carry a .339 on-base percentage and .425 slugging percentage, giving them clear offensive advantages over San Francisco. Los Angeles has also been excellent on the mound, posting a 3.59 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 1,481 strikeouts against 477 walks while limiting opponents to a .219 batting average.

The Dodgers' biggest strength remains their balance. They own the better offense, the stronger season-long pitching profile and the more dominant starter for Saturday. Their 20-19 day-game record is only slightly above .500, so there is not the same situational edge they have shown at night, but the underlying matchup still strongly favors Los Angeles. The recent two-game skid is worth noting, yet the Dodgers had won three straight against the Giants before this weekend series began.

Giants Need More Offense to Stay Competitive

San Francisco enters at 65-94 overall and 37-41 at Oracle Park. The Giants have lost four of their last five completed games, with their only victory coming 5-2 against Minnesota. They dropped the other two games of that series by scores of 3-2 and 4-2 after suffering 3-1 and 10-4 losses against Los Angeles. San Francisco has scored only 13 runs across those five games while allowing 24.

The Giants are batting .246 with 665 runs, 1,324 hits and 178 home runs. They own a .308 on-base percentage and .403 slugging percentage. Their pitching staff has struggled considerably more than Los Angeles, carrying a 4.36 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 1,180 strikeouts against 586 walks while allowing opponents to hit .248.

San Francisco's biggest issue is creating enough offense against elite pitching. The Giants scored just seven total runs across the last three completed meetings against Los Angeles, and Saturday presents another difficult challenge against a starter with a 1.86 ERA and zero home runs allowed. San Francisco's starter has performed reasonably well in a limited sample, but the Giants cannot afford to give Los Angeles extra scoring opportunities because their own recent offense has not shown enough consistency to erase deficits.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Picks and Prediction

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers Moneyline

Los Angeles is the preferred side Saturday. The Dodgers own a substantial advantage in overall record, offensive production, season-long pitching numbers and starting pitching. Los Angeles has scored 790 runs compared with 665 for San Francisco and carries a .339 OBP and .425 slugging percentage compared with .308 and .403 for the Giants. The pitching gap is equally significant, with the Dodgers posting a 3.59 ERA and 1.15 WHIP compared with San Francisco's 4.36 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. The strongest factor is Saturday's starting matchup, where Los Angeles brings a 1.86 ERA starter who has not allowed a home run through 38.2 innings. The moneyline could be expensive once released, but Los Angeles remains the correct side based on the available data.

Pick: Under 8.0 or Higher

This matchup has a strong under profile if the total opens at 8.0 or higher. Los Angeles brings a starter with a 1.86 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 52 strikeouts in 38.2 innings, while San Francisco counters with a starter carrying a 3.65 ERA and excellent 1.01 WHIP. The Giants have scored only 13 runs over their last five completed games, and seven total runs across the last three completed meetings with Los Angeles. The Dodgers are clearly capable of producing offense, but Oracle Park plus two competent starting profiles gives the under a strong foundation. I would prefer 8.0 rather than chasing 7.0 or 7.5 because Los Angeles still has enough power to threaten the number by itself.

Final Picks: Los Angeles Dodgers Moneyline and Under 8.0 or Higher
