Brewers vs. Dodgers predictions

It’s Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Friday night and we’re getting you ready for the action with our Brewers vs. Dodgers predictions. Milwaukee (3-5 in postseason) was still wrestling with who would be their starter for this game. Los Angeles (8-1 in postseason) was locked in with RHP Shohei Ohtani (1-1, 2.87 ERA in regular season) as their starter. First pitch from Dodger Stadium is scheduled for 8:38 EST and stay on top of all the playoff action with our Free MLB Picks.

Brewers behind the eight ball

On top of scoring just one run per game this series, the Brewers have a grand total of nine hits and have struck out 29 times this series and now they find themselves with their backs against the wall. Adding injury to insult, start outfielder Jackson Chourio left Thursday night’s game in the seventh inning after a swing looked to reaggravate a hamstring injury.

Over the course of their postseason run, Milwaukee’s offense is hitting .199 with 25 runs over eight games. They have 18 extra-base hits and five stolen bases. Brewers’ hitters have 25 walks to their credit but have also struck out 63 times. Chourio is hitting .320 this postseason with eight RBIs, but his status for Game 4 is now in jeopardy. The team’s next best hitter in the playoffs has been William Contreras who is hitting .222 with three extra-base hits, three RBIs and five runs. Christian Yelich has been able to draw four walks but added only five hits, all singles.

Milwaukee’s pitching hasn’t been terrible in the NLCA, with a 3.12 ERA over three games. In the playoffs, the team ERA is 3.26 to go with a 1.28 WHIP and .216 opponents’ batting average. They’ve struck out 73 and walked 33 batters while also serving up 12 home runs. The starting staff, which has been primarily Freddy Peralta and a string of openers, is 1-3 with a 7.20 ERA while the relievers have a 1.65 ERA over 49 innings. Given that Jacob Misiorowski was the bulk guy on Thursday and Quinn Priester tossed four innings on Monday, Jose Quintana is the lone arm left to take on the bulk work for this game.

Pitching spotlight

  • Quintana is due to take bulk innings as he’s pitched just once this postseason, eight days ago.
  • Came on as the follower in Game 3 of the NLDS and held the Cubs scoreless over three innings.
  • Went 1-0 with 3.75 ERA in two starts against Dodgers this season.
  • Is 4-2 with a 2.32 ERA in 15 career games against Los Angeles.
  • Opponents have hit .241 against him this season with 18 home runs and 50 walks.

Dodgers continue title defense

The defending World Series Champions are one win away from returning to the title series for a second straight season and third time in the last four. They are now riding a four-game winning streak, and they’ve given up exactly one run in each of those games. On Thursday night, they won 3-1 at home to go up 3-0 in the NCLS.

The Dodgers have produced 10 runs this series while hitting .242. They’ve played nine games this postseason and are hitting .254 with 29 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs. Batters have racked up 83 strikeouts while walking 33 times. Mookie Betts had a double and an RBI in Thursday’s win. He has hit safely in six of nine games during this playoff run. Tommy Edman also had a hit and an RBI on Thursday and is hitting .290 in the postseason. Shohei Ohtani led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple, his first extra-base hit since hitting two home runs in Game 1 of the Wild Card series.

Pitching for Los Angeles has been outstanding, especially in this series, where they’ve given up a total of three runs. Through their nine playoff games, the staff has a 2.60 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and teams are hitting .174 against them. They’ve notched 93 strikeouts and issued 34 walks along the way. Starting pitching has been exceptional, going 6-1 with a 1.54 ERA while the bullpen has chipped in with two wins, two saves and a 5.11 ERA. Roki Sasaki tossed another scoreless frame on Thursday. The right-hander has a 1.29 ERA in six playoff appearances out of the pen.

Starter spotlight

  • Shohei Ohtani struck out nine batters and allowed three runs, three hits and a walk to earn the win the NLDS Game 1.
  • Has lasted at least five innings in four of his last five starts and struck out at least eight in three of those games.
  • Opponents hit .227 against him in the regular season with three home runs and nine walks.
  • Has never pitched against Milwaukee in his career.

Brewers vs. Dodgers Picks

Moneyline Pick for Brewers vs. Dodgers

  • Dodgers -178 (5 units)

After the Brewers dominated the season series with a six-game sweep, the Dodgers are repaying them, but in much more important affairs. Los Angeles has cruised to this point of the postseason, and it would be hard to believe that Milwaukee wakes up overnight and finds the cure for their offensive woes. They’ll be facing Ohtani, who has allowed only four earned runs combined over his last five games on the mound, and he struck out 36 over 25.2 innings. And once again, Milwaukee’s pitching staff has left them guessing at who will start, who will follow and who will be able to tame the Dodgers enough. They aren’t going to get the answer to that on Friday night.

Take the Dodgers for the sweep.

Over/Under Pick for Brewers vs. Dodgers

  • Under 8 (5 units)

The average score of a game in this series so far has been just 4.3 combined runs. The Brewers' offensive woes have been sufficiently documented in many of the above categories, and this is not where they suddenly turn the tide. They have scored three runs or less in six straight games. As much as the Dodgers have been rolling through the playoffs, their offense hasn’t been pounding opponents’ pitching too much. They’ve scored three runs or fewer in four of their last five games. The under is 3-0 in this series and 6-4 in the last 10 games between the teams.

Take the under.
