Starting Pitchers

Minnesota is scheduled to start Bailey Ober, who enters at 7-4 with a 4.37 ERA and 1.24 WHIP through 113.1 innings. Ober has allowed 109 hits and 31 walks while recording 79 strikeouts and surrendering 18 home runs. Chicago counters with Sean Burke, who is 8-6 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 154.2 innings. Burke has allowed 123 hits and 54 walks while striking out 167 and giving up 18 home runs. Chicago owns the clear starting-pitching advantage with the better ERA, lower WHIP and substantially stronger strikeout production.

Minnesota Has Been Inconsistent Away From Home

Minnesota enters Sunday at 67-74 overall and has struggled on the road with a 29-40 record. The Twins have won three of their last five completed games, but they come into this matchup having dropped two straight. Their recent stretch has been volatile, with victories of 15-2 and 11-1 followed by an 11-6 extra-inning loss and Friday's 4-1 defeat in Chicago. That inconsistency has prevented Minnesota from gaining meaningful ground in the division.

The Twins are batting .246 with 1,173 hits, 659 runs and 166 home runs while posting a .320 on-base percentage and .408 slugging percentage. Minnesota owns the better batting average, more hits and a slight edge in slugging percentage compared with Chicago. The Twins have scored seven fewer runs and hit 18 fewer home runs, however, so the offensive profiles are closer than the batting-average difference suggests.

Minnesota's pitching staff carries a 4.63 ERA and 1.37 WHIP while opponents are batting .251. Those numbers are all worse than Chicago's corresponding marks. The Twins have also allowed considerably more baserunners overall, which becomes a concern against a White Sox team that has played extremely well at home. Sunday's starting matchup further tilts toward Chicago, making run prevention Minnesota's biggest obstacle.

Chicago Has the Better Overall Pitching Profile

Chicago enters Sunday at 74-67 overall and owns one of the better home records in the division at 42-27. The White Sox have dropped three of their last five completed games, but they snapped that skid with Friday's 4-1 victory over Minnesota. Chicago also remains in first place in the AL Central, giving this matchup added importance as the White Sox try to maintain separation from the rest of the division.

The White Sox are batting .236 with 1,118 hits, 666 runs and 184 home runs while carrying a .318 on-base percentage and .405 slugging percentage. Chicago trails Minnesota in batting average and total hits but owns the stronger power numbers with 18 more home runs. The White Sox have also scored slightly more runs despite the lower batting average, which shows how much their power production has helped compensate for fewer total hits.

Chicago owns a 4.12 team ERA and 1.31 WHIP while opponents are batting .240. Those numbers are all clearly better than Minnesota's, and Sunday's starter gives the White Sox an even greater edge. Chicago also has a 42-27 home record compared with Minnesota's 29-40 road mark. Between the pitching advantage and strong home performance, the White Sox enter with the more reliable overall profile.

Minnesota Twins vs Chicago White Sox Picks and Prediction

Pick: Chicago White Sox Moneyline

Chicago is the preferred side for Sunday's matchup. The White Sox have the better overall record, the stronger home mark and meaningful advantages in team ERA, WHIP and opponent batting average. Sunday's starting matchup also favors Chicago, with the White Sox starter carrying a 3.20 ERA and 1.14 WHIP compared with Minnesota's 4.37 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. Minnesota has the better batting average and has shown the ability to score in bunches, but its 29-40 road record is difficult to ignore. At a reasonable price, Chicago moneyline is the stronger play.

Pick: Under 8.5

Under 8.5 is the preferred target number. Friday's series opener produced only five runs, and Chicago's scheduled starter enters with a 3.20 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across a substantial workload. Minnesota's offense has been inconsistent, scoring just one run in two of its last five completed games, while Chicago has also been held to two runs or fewer in three of its last five. The Twins' starter is not dominant, but the overall matchup still points toward a lower-scoring game if Chicago's pitching advantage holds. Under 8.5 is the stronger total lean.

Final Picks: Chicago White Sox Moneyline and Under 8.5
