The Minnesota Twins visit the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, on Saturday, September 19, 2026. First pitch is scheduled for 9:38 PM ET with coverage on MLB.TV. Minnesota enters at 71-82 overall and 31-44 on the road, while Los Angeles is 59-94 overall and 33-45 at home. The Angels won the first completed game of this series 5-4 in 10 innings on September 17 and lead the series 1-0, while Friday's September 18 matchup had not been completed when this preview was prepared. Minnesota has dropped four of its last five completed games, while Los Angeles has won three of its last four. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Starting Pitchers

Minnesota is scheduled to start Joe Ryan, who enters at 6-10 with a 3.84 ERA and 1.16 WHIP through 133.2 innings. Ryan has allowed 126 hits and 20 home runs while recording 146 strikeouts against only 29 walks. Los Angeles counters with Reid Detmers, who is 6-8 with a 3.36 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 174 innings. Detmers has surrendered 136 hits and 18 home runs while piling up 199 strikeouts against 46 walks. The numbers give Detmers the advantage with the lower ERA and WHIP, while both starters have demonstrated strong strikeout-to-walk profiles. Detmers has also been better at limiting hits and home runs relative to his considerably larger workload, giving the Angels an important starting-pitching advantage.

Minnesota Searches for a Road Turnaround

Minnesota comes into Saturday at 71-82 overall and sits seven games out of first place in the AL Central based on the supplied standings. The Twins have struggled away from home with a 31-44 road record and have lost four of their last five completed games. Their only victory during that stretch was a 5-4 win in 13 innings. Minnesota lost the other four games by scores of 9-2, 8-3, 8-1 and 5-4, giving the Twins 15 runs scored and 34 allowed over their last five completed contests.

Minnesota is batting .244 with 1,256 hits, 696 runs and 177 home runs this season. The Twins have produced a .317 on-base percentage and .403 slugging percentage, giving them a clear offensive advantage over Los Angeles in several major categories. Pitching has been the more significant problem. Minnesota carries a 4.67 team ERA and 1.38 WHIP while allowing opponents to bat .251. The staff has recorded 1,292 strikeouts while issuing 556 walks.

The offensive numbers give Minnesota a legitimate path to winning this game, but its recent run prevention has been concerning. The Twins have surrendered at least eight runs in three of their last five completed contests and are allowing 6.8 runs per game during that span. Their scheduled starter gives them a chance to stabilize things, but the 31-44 road record remains another significant weakness. Minnesota needs a much cleaner pitching performance than it has received recently if it is going to even this series.

Angels Lean on Pitching Advantage at Home

Los Angeles enters at 59-94 overall and 33-45 at Angel Stadium. The Angels have been eliminated from meaningful contention in the AL West based on their 18-game deficit in the supplied standings, but their recent results have been considerably better than their season record. Los Angeles has gone 3-2 over its last five completed games, defeating Seattle 6-4 and 2-1 before taking the first completed game against Minnesota 5-4 in 10 innings. The Angels have scored 20 runs while allowing 22 during those five games.

Los Angeles has produced weaker offensive numbers than Minnesota over the course of the season. The Angels are batting .234 with 1,194 hits, 619 runs and 146 home runs while posting a .309 on-base percentage and .370 slugging percentage. Their pitching has been more effective, however, with a 4.20 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Los Angeles has held opposing hitters to a .236 batting average while recording 1,372 strikeouts against 610 walks.

The Angels' primary advantage in this matchup comes from run prevention. Los Angeles owns the better team ERA, WHIP and opponent batting average, and the scheduled starting-pitching matchup further strengthens that edge. Minnesota has the more productive offense over the full season, but the Twins have scored only 15 runs in their last five completed games while the Angels have recently shown an ability to win close contests. Los Angeles is only 33-45 at home, so this is hardly a dominant home-field situation, but the pitching matchup makes the Angels more attractive than their overall record might initially suggest.

Minnesota Twins vs Los Angeles Angels Picks and Prediction

Pick: Los Angeles Angels Moneyline

Los Angeles is the side pick in what looks like one of the more evenly matched games on Saturday's schedule. Minnesota owns the stronger season record and better offensive numbers, but the Twins are just 31-44 on the road and have lost four of their last five completed games. Los Angeles has won three of four and already took the first completed meeting of this series. The biggest factor is the scheduled pitching matchup, where the Angels enter with a starter carrying a 3.36 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 199 strikeouts compared with Minnesota's 3.84 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. Los Angeles also has the better team ERA and opponent batting average. Without a confirmed price, the Angels moneyline is the preferred side, but the eventual number should be checked before betting.

Pick: Under 8.5 or Higher

The Under 8.5 or higher is the preferred total. Both scheduled starters have been effective at controlling baserunners, combining for only 75 walks over 307.2 innings, and each enters with a WHIP of 1.16 or lower. Los Angeles has also played several lower-scoring games recently, including a 2-1 victory and a 7-2 defeat, while Minnesota has struggled to generate consistent offense with only 15 runs over its last five completed contests. The September 17 meeting reached nine runs only after going to extra innings, finishing 5-4 in the 10th. Minnesota's shaky overall pitching prevents this from being an automatic Under at any number, but 8.5 or better provides enough room to back the stronger starting-pitching matchup.

Final Picks: Los Angeles Angels Moneyline and Under 8.5 or Higher
