MLB Best Bets for Monday, October 12, 2026

The MLB postseason continues Monday with two League Championship Series matchups as the Los Angeles Dodgers visit the Milwaukee Brewers for Game 2 of the NLCS before the Cleveland Guardians face the Tampa Bay Rays in the opening game of the ALCS. Milwaukee holds a 1-0 series lead following Sunday's 2-1 victory, while Tampa Bay enters its series after sweeping New York in the Division Series.

Both games present interesting pitching matchups, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto facing Logan Henderson in Milwaukee and Drew Rasmussen opposing Foster Griffin in Tampa Bay. Our MLB Best Bets focus on identifying the strongest wager from each matchup rather than forcing multiple selections from every game. Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers Best Bet

Milwaukee opened the NLCS with a 2-1 victory Sunday, overcoming an early deficit and receiving outstanding work from its bullpen. The Brewers held Los Angeles scoreless over the final innings despite facing a Dodgers lineup that scored 801 runs during the regular season. Milwaukee finished with 832 runs scored and a 3.51 team ERA, demonstrating the balance that helped the Brewers win an MLB-best 103 games. Sunday's result also reinforced how difficult Milwaukee can be to beat at American Family Field.

Monday's pitching matchup features two excellent right-handers. Yamamoto finished the regular season 14-9 with a 2.53 ERA and 0.87 WHIP, while Henderson went 11-3 with a 2.47 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. Both pitchers have demonstrated outstanding control and the ability to limit baserunners, making another competitive, relatively low-scoring contest a reasonable expectation. Los Angeles has enough offensive firepower to break through, but neither starting pitcher offers an obvious weakness for the opposing lineup to exploit.

Best Bet: Under 7.5 Runs

The starting pitching provides the foundation for this selection. Yamamoto and Henderson combined for regular-season ERAs below 2.55, and both maintained WHIPs below 0.90. Those numbers suggest scoring opportunities could be limited through the early innings, particularly if both pitchers establish command and avoid unnecessary walks. Milwaukee's bullpen also demonstrated its effectiveness Sunday by protecting a one-run advantage against one of baseball's most dangerous offenses.

There is always risk attached to an under involving Los Angeles, especially with the Dodgers capable of changing a game through one swing. However, Milwaukee has the pitching depth to keep the contest competitive, and Sunday's 2-1 result demonstrated that neither offense is guaranteed to produce substantial scoring. At Under 7.5, there is enough protection to make the total the preferred wager, although a move to 7 would reduce the value.

MLB Best Bet: Dodgers vs. Brewers Under 7.5 Runs

Cleveland Guardians vs. Tampa Bay Rays Best Bet

Cleveland opens the ALCS at Tropicana Field after completing one of the postseason's more impressive comebacks. The Guardians lost the first two games of their Division Series against Chicago before winning three consecutive elimination games, including a 2-0 victory in Saturday's deciding contest. Tampa Bay took a considerably easier route, sweeping the Yankees in three games and earning several additional days of rest. The Rays also dominated the regular-season series against Cleveland, winning five of six meetings.

The starting pitching matchup favors Tampa Bay. Rasmussen is scheduled to start after an outstanding regular season, while Cleveland turns to Griffin following an exhausting five-game Division Series. Griffin recorded seven strikeouts over 2.2 innings in relief during Game 3 against Chicago, but he also posted a 5.19 ERA over his final nine regular-season starts with Cleveland. Tampa Bay enters with a rested pitching staff and the opportunity to attack a Guardians bullpen that has already been tested extensively this postseason.

Best Bet: Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline (-170 or Better)

Tampa Bay's combination of starting pitching, rest and home-field advantage makes the Rays the stronger selection. Rasmussen gives Tampa Bay a reliable option at the beginning of the game, while Cleveland must navigate a difficult road matchup shortly after surviving three consecutive elimination contests. The Rays also have the confidence of winning five of six regular-season meetings, suggesting their advantages extend beyond simply having additional preparation time.

Cleveland has demonstrated considerable resilience and shouldn't be dismissed after its comeback against Chicago. However, the Guardians now face a rested Tampa Bay club that finished 98-64 and has yet to lose this postseason. At Rays -170 or better, the moneyline provides the most straightforward way to back those advantages without requiring a multi-run victory.

MLB Best Bet: Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline (-170 or Better)

MLB Best Bet of the Day

Of Monday's two selections, Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline at -170 or better earns our MLB Best Bet of the Day. The Rays enter the ALCS rested after sweeping New York, while Cleveland needed five games and three consecutive victories to advance. Tampa Bay also won five of six regular-season meetings against the Guardians and has the stronger starting-pitching situation with Rasmussen facing Griffin.

Cleveland's postseason comeback makes the Guardians dangerous, but Tampa Bay's rest advantage, home-field performance and pitching depth create the stronger overall position. Rather than asking the Rays to cover the run line in a potentially tight playoff game, we'll back them to win outright at a manageable favorite price.

MLB Best Bet of the Day: Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline (-170 or Better)
