MLB Picks for October 13, 2026
Tuesday’s MLB postseason schedule features just one game as the Cleveland Guardians visit the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field for Game 2 of the American League Championship Series. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET on TBS. Cleveland enters with a 1-0 series advantage after Monday’s 7-3 victory, leaving Tampa Bay trying to avoid losing both home games before the series moves to Cleveland.
The pitching matchup features Parker Messick against Freddy Peralta, while the early betting market has Tampa Bay favored around -170 with the total between 6.5 and 7 runs. For more postseason predictions, check out StatSalt’s free MLB picks.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Tampa Bay Rays Best Bet
Cleveland’s Game 1 victory exposed a weakness that Tampa Bay managed to conceal during its Division Series sweep of New York. The Rays led 2-0 early and remained tied 2-2 entering the eighth inning, only to watch their bullpen surrender five late runs. Cleveland finished with seven runs, including a decisive two-run single in the eighth and additional insurance in the ninth. Tampa Bay’s starting pitching did enough to keep the Rays competitive, but the relief staff couldn’t finish the job.
Tuesday’s starters make this a more interesting matchup than the moneyline suggests. Messick finished the regular season 12-9 with a 2.56 ERA and 1.06 WHIP, recording 193 strikeouts across 186.1 innings. His postseason numbers have been less impressive, with a 5.40 ERA through his early playoff appearances, but his regular-season performance offers reason to expect improvement. Peralta enters with a 1.93 postseason ERA, although his 4.42 regular-season ERA and 1.33 WHIP suggest Tampa Bay doesn’t necessarily have the overwhelming starting-pitching advantage implied by the favorite’s price.
Best Bet: Cleveland Guardians Moneyline (+140 or Better)
I’m not particularly interested in laying -170 with Tampa Bay after watching the Rays bullpen unravel Monday. Cleveland has already demonstrated that it can stay competitive against Tampa Bay’s starting pitching and capitalize once the game moves into the later innings. Messick’s regular-season numbers also suggest the Guardians have enough starting pitching to keep this close without requiring another late offensive explosion.
The biggest concern is that Tampa Bay remains a 98-win club playing at home with a strong lineup and an opportunity to even the series. Peralta could also outperform his regular-season numbers, making Cleveland’s offense work considerably harder than it did against the bullpen Monday. Still, the price creates the opportunity. At Guardians +140 or better, we’re getting a meaningful return with a team that just won the opener and has a legitimate starting pitcher available.
MLB Best Bet: Cleveland Guardians Moneyline (+140 or Better)
MLB Best Bet of the Day
With only one game on Tuesday’s postseason schedule, Cleveland Guardians Moneyline at +140 or better is our MLB Best Bet of the Day. Tampa Bay deserves respect after winning 98 regular-season games, but Monday’s bullpen collapse raises legitimate questions about laying a substantial favorite’s price in Game 2. Cleveland has already shown it can win at Tropicana Field, and Messick’s regular-season pitching numbers give the Guardians a reasonable opportunity to keep the game competitive.
The Rays could certainly bounce back behind Peralta, but asking bettors to lay approximately -170 after Monday’s result is difficult to justify. Cleveland at plus money offers the more attractive risk-to-reward proposition.
