The Rays briefly grabbed the lead in the fourth inning before Cleveland answered with a two-run homer in the fifth. That was enough. Cleveland's bullpen protected the advantage the rest of the way, and the Guardians have now held Tampa Bay to five runs over the last two games.

Friday's pitching situation is a little more complicated. Tampa Bay is expected to turn to Nick Martinez, while Cleveland appears headed toward a bullpen game after using Gavin Williams on Thursday. That gives the Rays an opportunity to attack several different pitchers, but Cleveland's relief staff has been outstanding during this postseason. Tampa Bay has also struggled to string together hits, which is a problem when facing a club that has been so effective at protecting narrow leads.

Best Bet: Under 7 Runs (-115 or Better)

I'm sticking with the pitching in this matchup. Tampa Bay has scored three, one and two runs in its first three games against Cleveland, and the Rays haven't shown much ability to put together a sustained offensive attack. The Guardians aren't exactly tearing the cover off the baseball either. They've scored three runs or fewer in two consecutive games, but their pitching has been good enough to make that work.

Cleveland using multiple pitchers is the obvious concern. A bullpen game can unravel quickly if the opener struggles or a reliever has trouble finding the strike zone. Martinez also needs to avoid giving Cleveland extra opportunities through walks. Still, the way these teams have been playing makes seven runs a reasonable target. I'd prefer the under at a full 7, where a seven-run finish pushes, rather than taking 6.5 and losing that protection.
