MLB Picks for October 17, 2026
Saturday's MLB postseason schedule features one game as the Tampa Bay Rays visit the Cleveland Guardians for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET at Progressive Field, with TBS carrying the action. Cleveland leads the series 2-1 after Thursday's 3-2 victory, and Friday's scheduled Game 4 was postponed because of rain. The teams will now play Saturday and Sunday without the originally planned day off.
The betting market has this matchup close to a pick'em, with Tampa Bay around -110 and Cleveland around -110. The total is sitting at 6.5 runs at several sportsbooks. Milwaukee is already waiting in the World Series after sweeping Los Angeles, so the American League Championship Series is the only baseball action this weekend. Tampa Bay Rays vs. Cleveland Guardians Best Bet
Cleveland has taken control of this series by winning two of the first three games, but the Guardians haven't exactly been overwhelming Tampa Bay offensively. They scored seven runs in Game 1 before managing only one in Game 2 and three in Game 3. Thursday's victory came on a two-run homer from Petey Halpin in the fifth inning, and the pitching staff did the rest. Cleveland allowed only three hits, struck out 13 batters and protected its narrow lead through the final four innings.
Tampa Bay hasn't found much consistency at the plate either. The Rays scored three runs in Game 1, three in Game 2 and two on Thursday. Nick Martinez was scheduled to start Friday and remains the expected option for Saturday, although the postponement gives both managers an opportunity to reconsider their pitching plans. Martinez went 15-6 with a 3.10 ERA during the regular season. Cleveland had planned to use Shawn Armstrong as an opener, but Foster Griffin could become an option with the extra day of rest. That uncertainty matters, especially when the betting total is only 6.5.
Best Bet: Cleveland Guardians Moneyline (-110 or Better)
I'm taking Cleveland at home rather than trying to guess which pitchers will be used throughout a bullpen game. The Guardians have won five of their last six postseason games, and their pitching has been particularly effective against Tampa Bay. Cleveland's bullpen has handled high-pressure situations well, and the Rays haven't shown enough offensive consistency to make me confident they'll suddenly break through. At a price close to even money, the Guardians are worth backing to move within one victory of the World Series.
The concern is Martinez. He was effective throughout the regular season, and Tampa Bay has enough pitching depth to keep Cleveland from generating many scoring opportunities. The postponement also gives the Guardians an opportunity to reconsider their pitching plan, so this recommendation depends on the final matchup. Still, Cleveland has been the more dependable team in this series, and the home-field advantage makes the Guardians my preferred side.

MLB Best Bet of the Day
With only one game on Saturday's schedule, Cleveland Guardians Moneyline at -110 or better earns our MLB Best Bet of the Day. Cleveland has won two of the first three games and has demonstrated an ability to protect narrow leads through its bullpen. Tampa Bay has struggled to generate consistent offense, scoring only eight runs across the opening three contests.
The Rays have enough pitching talent to make this another close game, but Cleveland has been more dependable when the pressure has increased. With the series shifting into consecutive games following Friday's postponement, bullpen management will become increasingly important. At a near-even money price, the Guardians are the preferred wager.
