MLB Picks for October 3, 2026
The Division Series begins Saturday with four Game 1 matchups and eight teams still chasing the World Series. The Chicago White Sox visit the Cleveland Guardians to open the day before the Atlanta Braves travel to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers. The American League takes center stage again Saturday evening when the New York Yankees visit the Tampa Bay Rays, while the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers finish the four-game playoff slate.
Game 1 creates an interesting handicapping challenge because four teams have been resting while their opponents had to survive the Wild Card Series. Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles and Milwaukee enter after earning first-round byes, while Chicago, New York, Atlanta and San Diego have already played postseason baseball this week. That creates differences in pitching availability, bullpen usage and preparation that become particularly important when evaluating Saturday's markets.
Our approach is straightforward. Rather than forcing a moneyline, run line and total prediction from every matchup, we're identifying the single strongest wager from each of Saturday's four games. That leaves us with a four-play Division Series betting card and one selection that earns our MLB Best Bet of the Day.

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians Best Bet
Saturday, October 3 — 1:00 PM ET — Progressive Field
Chicago enters the ALDS with momentum after eliminating Houston in two games, scoring six runs in Game 1 and seven more in Game 2. The White Sox now face a Cleveland club that earned a first-round bye despite finishing 85-77, setting up a matchup between a Wild Card team that has already found its postseason rhythm and a division champion that has had several days to prepare its pitching staff for Game 1.
Cleveland's biggest advantage is exactly that pitching preparation. Left-hander Parker Messick is listed as the Guardians' probable starter after going 12-9 with a 2.56 ERA and 193 strikeouts during the regular season. Chicago doesn't have the same luxury after playing through the Wild Card round, making the early innings especially important. If Cleveland can establish a lead and force the White Sox to chase the game, the Guardians can begin deploying their rested bullpen under postseason conditions.
Why Cleveland Moneyline Makes the Cut
The market has Cleveland priced around -150, and that's enough of a favorite price that I considered attacking the total instead. The problem with the total is that we're dealing with a number around 6.5 to 7, leaving very little margin for a couple of early mistakes or one bad bullpen inning. Backing Cleveland avoids requiring an exceptionally low-scoring game while still taking advantage of the Guardians' biggest strengths entering the series.
Chicago deserves respect after sweeping Houston, and postseason momentum shouldn't simply be dismissed. However, Cleveland has the rested pitching staff, home field and a quality starting option available for Game 1. The White Sox have already needed to navigate two elimination-style games this week, while the Guardians have been able to line up their roster specifically for Saturday. At approximately -150 or better, that's enough to make Cleveland the preferred position.
MLB Best Bet: Cleveland Guardians Moneyline (-150 or better)
Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Best Bet
Saturday, October 3 — 4:00 PM ET — Dodger Stadium
Atlanta arrives in Los Angeles after surviving the only Wild Card Series that required a third game. The Braves eliminated Philadelphia on Thursday and now face a Dodgers team that earned a bye after reaching 100 victories during the regular season. Los Angeles therefore enters Game 1 with its pitching staff rested, while Atlanta has had to navigate three postseason games and immediately travel across the country for the start of the Division Series.
The Braves shouldn't be dismissed simply because they took the longer route. Atlanta won its Wild Card Series against a strong Philadelphia club and has already experienced the pressure of an elimination game. Los Angeles, however, has been able to prepare specifically for this series while avoiding the pitching and bullpen decisions Atlanta faced during the previous round. That difference becomes particularly important in Game 1, where the Dodgers can attack the matchup without needing to account for accumulated postseason workload.
Why Dodgers Moneyline Makes the Cut
Los Angeles is going to carry a significant favorite price, so this isn't a recommendation to chase the Dodgers regardless of the number. Current markets have Los Angeles priced in the neighborhood of -190 to -210, depending on the sportsbook. That's expensive, but the circumstances surrounding Game 1 explain much of the premium.
Atlanta has already played three games this week and needed its entire pitching staff available for Thursday's winner-take-all matchup. Los Angeles hasn't had that problem. The Dodgers can enter Game 1 with their preferred pitching plan and a fully rested bullpen, while Atlanta has substantially less recovery time between rounds.
There is also no need to get cute with the run line simply to reduce the price. Game 1 of a postseason series can remain close deep into the evening, and Atlanta has already demonstrated that it can survive tight games. The Dodgers simply need to win for this wager to cash, which is the cleaner way to take advantage of their rest and pitching-position advantage.
MLB Best Bet: Los Angeles Dodgers Moneyline (-210 or better)
New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays Best Bet
Saturday, October 3 — 6:30 PM ET — Tropicana Field
The Yankees were one of the most impressive teams of the Wild Card round, eliminating Boston in two games while scoring nine runs in each victory. New York won Game 1 by a 9-0 score and followed with a 9-2 victory, meaning the Yankees arrive in Tampa Bay having outscored their postseason opponent 18-2. Tampa Bay presents a considerably different challenge after earning the American League's top seed and a first-round bye.
The pitching matchup is one reason this becomes especially interesting. Tampa Bay has Drew Rasmussen lined up after he finished the regular season 16-5 with a 2.67 ERA and 174 strikeouts. New York has enough pitching depth to make the series dangerous for Tampa Bay, but the Yankees' most attractive rotation options don't necessarily line up perfectly with Game 1 after the Wild Card round. That creates a situation where the Rays' rest advantage is particularly meaningful Saturday night.
Why Tampa Bay Moneyline Makes the Cut
New York's Wild Card performance makes taking Tampa Bay uncomfortable, which is precisely why the price is attractive. The Rays are only modest home favorites despite entering as the top seed, having their pitching staff rested and getting Rasmussen in the opening game. The Yankees' 18 runs against Boston are impossible to ignore, but postseason handicapping becomes dangerous when two games of offensive production completely replace the larger body of work.
Tampa Bay's run prevention was one of the biggest reasons the Rays earned the league's top seed, and Game 1 gives them the opportunity to attack New York with their preferred pitching setup. The Yankees absolutely have enough power to win this series and could make Saturday uncomfortable, but we don't need Tampa Bay to dominate. We simply need the Rays to win at home at a price around -135.
That combination of home field, rest and starting pitching makes the moneyline the strongest approach.
MLB Best Bet: Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline (-140 or better)
San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers Best Bet
Saturday, October 3 — 8:30 PM ET — American Family Field
Saturday's final game presents perhaps the clearest starting-pitching disparity on the board. Milwaukee has Jacob Misiorowski lined up for Game 1 after an outstanding regular season in which he went 16-5 with a 1.80 ERA and 252 strikeouts. San Diego, meanwhile, swept Chicago in the Wild Card round but had to use its preferred pitching options to get through the opening series, leaving the Padres with a much more complicated Game 1 decision.
That creates exactly the type of advantage a team earns by securing a first-round bye. Milwaukee doesn't merely enter rested; the Brewers can deploy one of baseball's most dominant starters while San Diego has to work around the pitching usage required to advance. The Padres' sweep prevented the situation from becoming even worse, but they still don't enter Saturday with the same rotation flexibility as Milwaukee.
Why Milwaukee -1.5 Makes the Cut
Milwaukee's moneyline is extremely expensive, with the Brewers priced north of -200 in the early market. At that point, simply backing Milwaukee to win requires bettors to assume substantial risk for relatively limited return. The run line becomes the more interesting way to attack the mismatch, particularly if the price remains reasonably close to even money.
Misiorowski's numbers explain much of the confidence. A 1.80 ERA combined with 252 strikeouts gives Milwaukee legitimate swing-and-miss dominance at the front of the game, and the Brewers enter with their bullpen rested behind him. San Diego's pitching situation doesn't provide the same certainty. If Milwaukee creates an early advantage, the Padres may have difficulty finding enough offense against a rested pitching staff to keep the game inside one run.
There is obviously more variance attached to laying -1.5 in a postseason game. A 3-2 Milwaukee victory would be enough to ruin the wager despite the handicap being largely correct. The price difference makes that risk worthwhile here. Rather than laying well beyond -200 on the moneyline, we'll ask the Brewers to turn their significant pitching advantage into a multi-run victory.
MLB Best Bet: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5
MLB October 3 Betting Card
Saturday's four-game Division Series slate gives us three different types of positions. Cleveland on the moneyline takes advantage of a rested pitching staff and home field against a Chicago team coming directly out of the Wild Card round. Los Angeles on the moneyline uses a similar approach against Atlanta, although the Dodgers carry a substantially higher price because of the perceived gap between the clubs.
Tampa Bay on the moneyline may be the most interesting price among the favorites. New York's dominant Wild Card sweep will attract plenty of attention, but the Rays have Drew Rasmussen available at home after earning the American League's top seed. Finally, Milwaukee -1.5 is our one run-line play because the Brewers' Game 1 pitching advantage is substantial enough to justify looking beyond an expensive moneyline.
The numbers remain important. Cleveland becomes considerably less attractive if the moneyline pushes much beyond -160, while there is little reason to chase Los Angeles above approximately -210. Tampa Bay remains playable around -140, and Milwaukee's run-line price should be evaluated separately from the Brewers' increasingly expensive moneyline.
MLB Best Bet of the Day
Of the four wagers, Tampa Bay Rays moneyline at -140 or better earns the designation as our MLB Best Bet for Saturday.
New York enters with considerable momentum after overwhelming Boston 18-2 across two Wild Card games, so this isn't a bet based on fading the Yankees simply because they had to play an additional round. Instead, the appeal comes from what Tampa Bay has available for Game 1. The Rays earned the American League's top seed, have a rested pitching staff and can send Drew Rasmussen to the mound after his 16-5 season with a 2.67 ERA.
The price is what separates Tampa Bay from the other favorites on Saturday's card. Los Angeles and Milwaukee require considerably larger moneyline investments, while Cleveland is also priced above the Rays. Getting Tampa Bay at approximately -140 or better gives us access to the advantages associated with the first-round bye without paying the type of premium attached to the Dodgers or Brewers.
New York's offense makes this a legitimate test, but the combination of Rasmussen, home field and a rested Tampa Bay pitching staff creates the strongest blend of matchup and price on Saturday's four-game board.
