MLB Picks for October 7, 2026

By: Al MacMillan Published 10/07/2026, 10:45 AM ET

Wednesday's MLB postseason schedule brings four Division Series games and several interesting underdog prices. Cleveland, Atlanta and Tampa Bay are all getting plus money despite bringing profitable betting profiles into their matchups, while Milwaukee is hovering just above even money against San Diego.

The common thread across the board is price. Division Series underdogs are 37-37 since 2022 but have still produced +10.97 units, showing once again that bettors do not need an underdog to win more than half the time if the payouts are large enough. Cleveland Guardians vs Chicago White Sox Pick

Cleveland is +107 against Chicago, with Daniel Espino facing Sean Newcomb and the total sitting at 8. The White Sox have been excellent at home, so this is not a simple fade of Chicago. Cleveland's appeal comes from the fact that the Guardians have also been profitable away from home and are still being offered at a plus-money price.

The Guardians are 44-37 on the road for +10.85 units, which would translate to roughly $1,085 in profit for a bettor risking $100 per wager. Chicago is 48-33 at home for +12.60 units, so both teams bring legitimate strengths into the matchup. The difference is that Cleveland bettors are being paid to accept the road disadvantage rather than being asked to lay a favorite's price.

The total of 8 has some Under appeal, but it is not the strongest position. Division Series games lined at 8 are 36-24-9 to the Under, although the financial return is only +1.49 units, and Chicago's season-long scoring profile keeps the total from becoming more than a secondary lean.

Pick: Cleveland Guardians ML +107

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Atlanta Braves Pick

Atlanta is one of the more attractive prices on Wednesday's board. The Dodgers are -144, the Braves are +132 and the total is 7.5, with Tyler Glasnow facing Tyler Mahle. Los Angeles owns the better straight-up road record, but Atlanta has produced the stronger betting return at home.

The Braves are 54-31 at home for +8.80 units. A bettor risking $100 on every Atlanta home moneyline would be up about $880. Los Angeles is 50-32 on the road, but those games have still resulted in a 1.70-unit loss because the Dodgers have frequently carried expensive prices.

Atlanta also owns the better first-five betting profile in this setting. The Braves are 48-37 on the first-five run line at home for +9.25 units, while Los Angeles is slightly negative on the road in the same market. Glasnow gives the Dodgers a starting-pitcher edge, but not one large enough to make -144 especially attractive when the home team is returning +132.

Pick: Atlanta Braves ML +132

Tampa Bay Rays vs New York Yankees Pick

Tampa Bay offers the largest underdog payout among Wednesday's primary sides. The Rays are +147 in New York, the Yankees are -160 and the total is 7.5, with Nick Martinez facing Max Fried. Fried gives New York the better starting-pitcher profile, but the current moneyline asks bettors to pay heavily for that advantage.

Tampa Bay is 100-64 on the moneyline for +23.45 units, an +11.00% return. That would mean approximately $2,345 in profit for a bettor risking $100 per wager throughout the season. The Rays have also been profitable on the road at 43-38 for +4.10 units.

New York's home record is strong at 48-34, but Yankees moneyline bettors are still down 5.55 units in those games. The first-five splits also lean toward Tampa Bay: the Rays are 48-33 on the road first-five run line for +9.20 units, while the Yankees are 37-45 at home for -15.05 units.

The total has some Over appeal at 7.5, but the side remains cleaner. Tampa Bay's +147 payout gives bettors meaningful compensation for Fried's pitching advantage and Yankee Stadium, while New York has to win at a much higher rate to justify -160.

Pick: Tampa Bay Rays ML +147

Milwaukee Brewers vs San Diego Padres Pick

Milwaukee is the most modest underdog play on the board. The Brewers are +101, San Diego is -109 and the total is 7.5. Walker Buehler is listed for the Padres, while Milwaukee's starter remains unconfirmed, which adds more uncertainty here than in the other three games.

The Brewers are 105-60 for +23.10 units overall and 48-34 on the road for +6.70 units. San Diego has been excellent at home, going 54-30 for +18.50 units, so there is no reason to treat the Padres as an undeserving favorite. The case for Milwaukee is simply that the Brewers remain slightly above even money despite bringing one of baseball's most profitable full-season profiles into the matchup.

The first-five numbers actually favor San Diego more strongly. The Padres are 49-35 at home on the first-five run line for +9.25 units, while Milwaukee is 39-42 on the road for -7.40 units. That makes the Brewers a better full-game value than an early-game side, especially while Milwaukee's starter remains unresolved.

Pick: Milwaukee Brewers ML +101

MLB Best Bet for October 7

Tampa Bay +147 is the top play on Wednesday's board. The Rays have been one of baseball's most profitable teams all season, producing +23.45 units overall, and they are now getting their largest underdog price of the four recommended sides. New York has a legitimate pitching advantage with Fried, but the -160 price forces Yankees bettors to pay heavily for it.

Atlanta +132 is a close second because of the Braves' profitable home record and Los Angeles' negative road betting return. Cleveland +107 also offers a solid plus-money position, while Milwaukee +101 is the weakest of the four because San Diego has been excellent at home and Milwaukee's pitching plan remains less certain.

Best Bet: Tampa Bay Rays ML +147
