Mets Looking to Close NL East Gap

The New York Mets are looking to recover after their 3-2 road loss against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. The lineup was held to just 3-for-30 with a pair of walks and 12 strikeouts on the day as Brett Baty and Juan Soto each hit a home run. New York went 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position and stranded three men on base. Brandon Sproat pitched well despite recording the loss in his MLB debut as he allowed three runs in six innings.

The Mets are sending southpaw Sean Manaea to pitch and he is struggling as in 10 games (nine starts), he is 1-2 in 45.0 innings with a 5.60 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. He has been giving up a good amount of hits as he has a .261 batting average against so far this year. Manaea faced the Phillies once earlier this season as he did not factor into the decision as he pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two runs on six hits with zero walks and eight strikeouts.

Phillies Looking to Continue Creating Separation in NL East

The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to bounce back after Sunday’s 5-4 road loss to the Miami Marlins in their most recent game. The Phillies were able to go 7-for-34 with five walks and seven strikeouts at the plate. Philly finished 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position while leaving eight men on base. Taijuan Walker struggled in the loss as he allowed four runs in six innings of work.

Left-hander Ranger Suarez is going to be taking the mound for the Phillies in this game and has been pitching well as he is 11-6 with a 2.89 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP in 137.0 innings over 22 starts. He has been doing a great job in terms of limiting the amount of homers hit as he has allowed 10 this year after giving up 14 in 150.2 innings in 2024. Suarez faced the Mets three times last season as he went 2-0 in 15.2 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on 17 hits with two hit by pitches, six walks, and 13 strikeouts.
