Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros Picks and Prediction for Friday, September 19, 2025

The Seattle Mariners (84-69, 83-65-5 O/U) will be taking on the Houston Astros (84-69, 69-76-8 O/U) on Friday night in the opening game of a pivotal three-game American League West series for our Mariners vs. Astros prediction. The Mariners won on Thursday, 2-0 over the Kansas City Royals on the road, while the Astros had Thursday off. Young right-hander Bryan Woo (14-7, 3.02 ERA) is going to be pitching in this game for the Mariners, while the Astros are sending righty Hunter Brown (12-7, 2.27 ERA) to the hill. From splits to bullpens, MLB predictions for the Seattle Mariners at the Houston Astros highlight the edge.

Mariners Looking to Capture AL West Lead

The Seattle Mariners are looking to continue winning games and try to get the top spot in the American League West as they are second in the AL West with an 84-69 record up to this point. The offense is on fire as they are 10th in baseball with a .244/.320/.419 team's slash line while averaging 4.73 runs per game.

The Seattle Mariners are coming off a 2-0 road win on Thursday over the Kansas City Royals and the team only had two extra-base hits. Luis Castillo stepped up as he pitched six shutout innings to record the win.

Catcher Cal Raleigh (56 HR, .944 OPS) has been one of the favorites to win the AL MVP as he is doing things we have never seen a catcher do before. Young right-hander Bryan Woo (14-7, 3.02 ERA) is going to be on the mound and is coming off a win over the Los Angeles Angels, where he allowed two runs on three hits with one walk and 13 strikeouts in six innings.

Astros Looking to Dominate

The Houston Astros are looking to capture the division as they are first in the AL West with an 84-69 record up to this point. The Astros are hitting at a respectable level as they are 13th in the bigs with a .718 team OPS while averaging 4.26 runs per game.

The Houston Astros are coming off Wednesday’s 5-2 home win over the Texas Rangers and led by Jose Altuve and Jeremy Pena, who both had homers. Cristian Javier pitched well as he allowed a pair of runs in six innings to record the win.

Shortstop Jeremy Pena (.305 BA, .838 OPS) has been one of the top young players to step up and look like a legitimate threat as we advance. Right-hander Hunter Brown (12-7, 2.27 ERA) will be taking the mound and is coming off a victory over the Atlanta Braves, where he threw 6.2 innings and gave up two runs on four hits with one walk and a pair of strikeouts.

Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros Pick

Spread Pick for Mariners vs.  Astros

  • Seattle Mariners ML (4 units)

Both starting pitchers have been incredible throughout the season so dissecting the numbers between Bryan Woo and Hunter Brown is difficult. Hitting since the All-Star break shows a massive difference, as Seattle is 12th in the bigs with a .732 team OPS in 57 games, while Houston is tied with the Cincinnati Reds for 24th with a .690 team OPS in their 57 games. The Mariners have won two of the last three games against the Astros, so take the Seattle Mariners to win here.

Over/Under Pick for Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros

  • Under (5 units)

These starting pitchers have been stepping up in September thus far as Bryan Woo is 2-0 with a 3.71 ERA and a .164 batting average against in 17.0 innings (three starts) while Hunter Brown is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP in 12.2 innings (two starts) entering Friday’s game. Both bullpens have been dominating this year as well with the Mariners ranking eighth in the sport with a 3.70 reliever ERA while the Astros are 11th with a 3.74 bullpen ERA up to this point. All in all, take the under as the better bet.
