Can the Mariners take a decisive lead in this series?
The Seattle Mariners came into the postseason full of momentum, and after an extra-innings loss in game one, they bounced back with a major win as they head to Detroit needing to pick up at least one victory on the road. This season, the Mariners were just 39-42 away from home this season, but behind Logan Gilbert, they won three of their last four games, showing that if he turns up, this is a team that can beat anybody.
In this one, Seattle will hope for another Logan Gilbert gem after he posted a 3.44 ERA across, but with just one outing of postseason experience in his career, this will be the biggest outing of his entire MLB career to date. Last time out for the Mariners was a massive victory, with Luis Castillo giving them 4.1 innings of shutout ball as Julio Rodriguez's go-ahead double in the eighth inning was enough to lead them to the 3-2 victory to tie the series up.
Can Detroit pick up a key victory at home?
On the road this post-season, the Detroit Tigers have posted a 3-2 record, but now, they finally get the opportunity to play at home, with the team having the opportunity to take a massive lead in this tight American League Division Series. In five postseason games thus far, the Tigers have scored just 14 runs, but with their pitching allowing three or fewer runs in four of those five games, they continue giving themselves chances to win tight games.
Taking the mound for Detroit here will be veteran righty Jack Flaherty, who gave the team 4.2 innings of one-run ball in their Wild Card series with the Cleveland Guardians, but with three straight losses at home, this will be a massive matchup for him. Last time out for the Tigers was a dramatic loss to the Mariners, with two RBI to Spencer Torkelson not enough to get the job done as they wasted 7.0 innings of two-run ball from their ace Tarik Skubal, as they would fall 3-2.
Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers pick
Moneyline pick for Mariners vs. Tigers
- Seattle -130 (4 units)
To this point, this has been an incredibly tight, hard-fought matchup, but with the win in the last game, it's the Mariners that come into this matchup full of all the momentum.
In eight matchups between these teams this season, the head-to-head record is 4-4 to this point, but with Logan Gilbert putting together the much better 2025 campaign, expect him to lead Seattle to a big victory in a decisive Game Three. Flaherty has basically been a five-inning pitcher so the Mariners will try and get to him early.
Over/Under pick for Mariners vs. Tigers
- Under 8.5 (4 units)
Through two games of this series, a total of 10 combined runs have been scored between these two teams, and with two solid pitchers taking the mound in this one, this should be another low-scoring affair.
For the Mariners, the under sits at 5-5 in their last 10 overall games, with four runs or less allowed in eight of those games, and for the Tigers, the under comes in at 8-1-1 in their past 10, with just over three runs allowed per game in that span.
Keep it simple, take the under.
