Cardinals Losing Streak Grows

The Cardinals are coming off another loss on Friday versus the Brewers with a final score of 8-2. This is the fourth loss in a row for the Cardinals as they continue their six-game road trip. St. Louis is out of the playoff race as they focus on next season but are still aiming to end their season on a high note.

St. Louis yesterday demonstrated one of their big weaknesses this season, and that is their pitching. On the season, the Cardinals are 21st overall in ERA at 4.27. While they are allowing runs, they are not allowing many walks or home runs, ranking sixth in home runs and fourth in walks allowed. The main issue for their pitching is they allow too many consistent hits. The Cardinals are 26th overall in hits this season, and it showed yesterday as the Cardinals allowed eleven hits against Milwaukee.

Right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray will be starting for the Cardinals on Saturday.

Sonny Gray:

  • has a 13-8 record with an ERA of 4.45 and 179 strikeouts in 29 appearances this season.
  • is 4-6 with an ERA of 3.64 and 124 strikeouts in 18 appearances versus the Brewers in his career.

Brewers Look To Retain Top Seed

The Brewers picked up a much-needed win on Friday versus the Cardinals with a final score of 8-2. This win would break up a three-game losing streak the Brewers had amassed, but with this win, the Brewers still retain the top seed in the National League. Milwaukee leads the National League with a winning percentage of .608 and is trailed by the Phillies with a .595 winning percentage. With the season coming to an end, the Brewers are closing in on clinching their spot at the top of the National League.

Milwaukee has used a combination of reliable hitting and pitching to grab its wins this season. Lately, we have seen a slight decline in their pitching. The Brewers have an ERA of 3.98 in their last 11 games compared to their season ERA, which sits at 3.62. While this change does not seem like a lot, that is because the Brewers are having some games where they allow few runs and some where they allow six plus runs per game. The inconsistency at the mound is troublesome but the Brewers look like a strong favorite to hold the top of the National League.

Right-handed pitcher Jacob Misiorowski will be starting for the Brewers on Saturday.

Jacob Misiorowski:

  • has a record of 5-2 with an ERA of 4.09 and 77 strikeouts in 12 appearances this season.
  • has not allowed any runs on 0 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts in 5 innings versus the Cardinals in his career.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction and Picks

Run Line Pick for St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers

  • Brewers -1.5 (+132 ) (4 units)

The Cardinals have a record of 2-8 against the run line as underdogs in their last ten games on the road. The Brewers have a 6-1 record against the run line as favorites in their last seven games against the NL Central at home. Milwaukee still wants to retain their top spot and it will only take a couple more wins to secure their spot over the Phillies for the top of the National League. The Brewers’ largest issue as of late has been their pitching; however, Jacob Misiorowski has played great in his first game against the Cardinals and with that holding back the Cardinals’ offense, we should see a one-sided game.

Over/Under Pick for Cardinals vs. Brewers

  • Over 7.5 (-115) (3 units)

The Brewers have an over/under record of 6-3-1 in their last ten games at home. The Cardinals have an over/under record of 6-3-1 in their last ten games on the road. While I may have faith in pitcher Jacob Misiorowski holding back the Cardinals’ offense, I cannot say the same for the Brewers’ bullpen, which has been struggling as of late. I have no doubt the Brewers alone can get us to this over much like we saw in game one. I am expecting a similar result with a one-sided score still hitting the over, thanks to one team.
