Rays Struggling With Consistencies At Offense
The Rays are coming off a loss on Tuesday versus the Orioles with a final score of 6-0. This is the third loss for the Rays in their last four games as they continue to struggle to generate wins in game one of a series. Tampa Bay has not won a game one of a series since their series earlier this month against the White Sox. The Rays are out of the wild card race as their are too many teams above them still in the race and Tampa Bay continues to lose games and fall further down the standings.
Tampa Bay this season has looked decent at the plate ranking 16th overall in runs and eleventh overall in batting average at .250. Unfortunately this consistency at the plate has not been there as of late, with the Rays struggling to have a reliable source of runs. The Rays are averaging 3.56 runs per game in their last nine games with a batting average of .227. While this does not look terrible, many of their recent games either see the Rays scoring many runs or barely any at all. In those last nine games the Rays have only had four games in which they have scored more than three runs.
Right-handed pitcher Drew Rasmussen will be starting for the Rays on Thursday.
Drew Rasmussen:
- has a 10-5 record with an ERA of 2.80 and 124 strikeouts in 30 appearances this season.
- is 2-1 with an ERA of 2.97 and 27 strikeouts in 9 appearances against the Orioles in his career.

Orioles Relying Too Much On Home Runs
The Orioles picked up a win on Tuesday versus the Rays with a final score of 6-0. This win would be the third straight win in game one of a series for the Orioles. Baltimore is also out of the wild card race as they struggled to find much success this season.
On the season the Orioles ranked 23rd in runs and 24th in batting average at .237. The key to the Orioles’ offense has been their ability to generate home runs which they rank 13th in this season. However this alone has not been enough to counter their poor pitching. The Orioles are 24th in ERA this season at 4.58 and are 27th in home runs allowed. This combination of poor pitching and unreliable hitting has resulted in the Orioles sitting at the bottom of their division.
Left-handed pitcher Cade Povich will be starting for the Orioles on Thursday.
Cade Povich:
- has a 3-8 record with an ERA of 5.06 and 114 strikeouts in 21 appearances this season.
- will be facing off against the Rays for the first time in his career.
Rays versus Orioles Picks and Predictions
Money Line Pick for Rays versus Orioles
- Orioles Money Line (4 units)
The Orioles have an 8-4 record in their last 12 games versus the Rays at home. The Rays have a record of 1-5 in their last six games on the road. The Rays are batting .221 against left-handed pitchers on the road this season. The Rays are struggling to produce runs at a consistent rate and with them going up against a left-handed pitcher I doubt they will have much more success than they did in game one of this series. While the Rays have pitched well this season they are 23rd in home runs allowed which is an issue going up against the Orioles who rely heavily on home runs to generate their runs.
Over/Under Pick for Rays versus Orioles
- Under (5 units)
The Orioles have an over/under record of 3-7 in their last ten games. The Rays have an over/under record of 1-4 in their last five games versus the Orioles. While the Orioles will find success on offense thanks to the Rays’ issues at stopping home runs. I doubt they alone will be able to take us over the total. The Rays’ offense has been unable to find much success against left-handed pitchers this season on the road and because of that I do not have much faith in them contributing to the total. With a one sided game much like game one, we should expect a lower scoring game.
