Rangers Hanging Around in A.L.
This season has been a rollercoaster ride for the Texas Rangers, but even after losing SP Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) for the remainder of the season, they’ve battled and find themselves in the playoff hunt. Following a big 8-3 win over the Mets on Friday night, the Rangers are now 78-70 and sit only 1.5 games out of the wild card. Also, the A.L. West title isn’t out of the question, as Texas is in third, only 2.0 games behind first-place Houston. The Rangers are hot, as they took two out of three from the Astros (W: 4-3, L: 11-0, W: 4-2) and swept the Brewers (5-4, 5-4, 6-3) in three games.
Friday’s 8-3 victory over the Mets marked the Rangers’ fifth straight win. Jacob deGrom (7.0 IP, 3 ER) was sharp in his start and picked up the win in his return to Citi Field. Offensively, Dylan Moore homered in the win, while Cody Freeman and Michael Helman each drove in two runs as well.
- Patrick Corbin heads to the bump for Texas on Saturday, and the veteran hurler hasn’t been overpowering in 2025.
- Across 27 starts (142.1 IP), the left-hander has gone 7-9 with a 4.36 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP.
- Corbin last pitched on Sunday against the Astros, and he turned in an excellent 5.2-inning start, limiting them to one earned run on three hits and a walk.
- It was a no-decision in a 4-2 victory, as the Rangers improved to 3-0 in his last three outings.

Mets in the Playoff Hunt
Meanwhile, the vibes couldn’t be worse in Queens, as the New York Mets are sliding right out of the playoffs. They sit at 76-72 overall, but have now dropped their last seven games! This includes losses to the Reds (6-3, 2-1), getting swept by the Phillies in four games (1-0, 9-3, 11-3, 6-4), and dropping Friday’s series opener against the Rangers (8-3). New York still possesses the final wild card spot, but they have just a 1.0-game cushion over both Cincinnati and San Francisco heading into Saturday.
Jonah Tong got lit up on Friday night, lasting only 0.2 innings in his start after giving up six earned runs on four hits. Offensively, Francisco Alvarez led the way, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run.
- New York will send Brandon Sproat to the bump on Saturday, and the 24-year-old is set to make his second start ever.
- He was the team’s second-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, going 56th overall.
- Sproat made his debut last Sunday against the Reds, and he turned in a 6.0-inning quality start, holding them to three earned runs on three hits and four walks.
- He took the loss in a 3-2 defeat.
Rangers vs. Mets Pick
Moneyline Pick for Rangers vs. Mets
- New York Mets Moneyline (-160) (5 units)
I hate to lay this type of juice with the Mets, considering they’re in the midst of a seven-game slide, but at the same time, I don’t really trust Patrick Corbin to take care of business. Despite an unappetizing price, I’ll lock in New York to win this home contest.
Really, this one just boils down to New York’s head-to-head success against Corbin (4.36 ERA) in the past. Their current roster is familiar with him from his time in Washington, and they’re slashing .298/.353/.494 against him over 255 at-bats. Neither of these offenses has been very potent recently–which I’ll dive into below–so as long as the Mets can muster up a few runs against Corbin, then they should secure the win.
Over/Under Pick for Rangers vs. Mets
- Under 8.5 (+100) (5 units)
As I was alluding to above, neither of these offenses has been overpowering recently. Over the last seven days, the Mets are 22nd in wOBA (.276) and 20th in ISO (.131). The Rangers are 23rd (.276) and 16th (.146), respectively.
While I was dogging Corbin above, there’s no denying that he has been in decent form. Over his last three starts (19.1 IP), he has logged a respectable 2.79 ERA. Meanwhile, the Mets will turn to Brandon Sproat, and he posted a quality start (6.0 IP, 3 ER) in his MLB debut last Sunday. Texas’ bullpen is seventh overall in ERA (3.64), while New York’s is a modest 16th (4.10). I think both pitching staffs will do enough to keep this game under.
