The World Series shifts to Game 5 from the City of Angels, and if you’re looking for a little help with your plays, check out our Blue Jays vs. Dodgers predictions. Toronto (9-6 in postseason) was able to even the score on Tuesday night with a 6-2 victory, and they will look to gain a series advantage with RHP Trey Yesavage as their starter on Wednesday, while Los Angeles (11-3 in postseason) turns to LHP Blake Snell. The final first pitch of the season from Dodger Stadium is scheduled for 8:00 EST, and be sure to stay on top of the game with our Free MLB Picks.
Blue Jays make it a three-game series
Just when it looked like they were down and out, the Blue Jays responded with a six-run, nine-hit effort to make this a best-of-three game series the rest of the way. They also ensured that this series returns to Toronto.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. set a franchise record, hitting his seventh home run of the postseason, a two-run shot in the third inning that put the team up, 2-1. The first baseman has hit safely in nine straight games and is hitting .419 in the playoffs with 14 RBIs and 16 runs. Addison Barger has two more hits, giving him 16 this postseason to go with a .333 batting average. After being removed from Game 3, outfielder George Springer, hitting .246 in the postseason, was not in the lineup on Tuesday, and his status is questionable. The Jays are hitting .285 as a team in the postseason with 25 home runs and 94 runs over 15 games.
Toronto’s pitching struck out six batters in Game 4, giving the staff 147 Ks in 15 games this postseason. They have a 4.05 team ERA, 1.31 WHIP and opponents are hitting .227 against them. Blue Jays’ starters have gone 5-3 with a 3.66 ERA while the bullpen has three wins, two saves, and a 4.80 ERA in 65.2 innings. Chris Bassitt tossed a 10-pitch scoreless inning in relief on Tuesday. After missing the ALDS due to injury, the regular-season starter has not allowed a run in five playoff appearances out of the bullpen, a span of 5.2 innings.

Starter spotlight
- Once more, the Jays hand the ball to 22-year-old rookie Trey Yesavage, who is 2-1 with a 4.25 ERA in four postseason starts.
- In a gutsy Game 1 of the World Series, the right-hander lasted four innings and allowed two runs, four hits, and three walks while striking out five.
- Has allowed three walks in each of his last three starts.
- Toronto is 6-1 when Yesavage pitches.
Dodgers’ offense sleepy
The Dodgers were staked with an early 1-0 lead on Tuesday, but the offense struggled to muster up much more resistance, allowing Toronto to come back and pull away. It was the second time in 14 playoff games that Los Angeles was held to two runs or fewer.
Shohei Ohtani went 0-3 with two strikeouts and a walk in the loss. He was also hooked with the loss as the starting pitcher. He had a six-game hit streak snapped, but extended his on-base streak to eight straight. Kike Hernandez drove his 41st career RBI in the postseason with a second-inning sac fly. Monday’s hero, Freddie Freeman, was the only player with two hits, both singles. Following their six-hit performance in Game 4, the Dodgers’ offense is hitting .242 with 20 home runs and 62 runs in 14 playoff games.
Their pitching staff has a 3.04 ERA with 141 strikeouts in the postseason. Dodgers’ pitchers have a 1.13 WHIP while holding opponents to a .203 batting average. Ohtani allowed four earned runs on Tuesday, pushing the starter's ERA to 2.22 while Los Angeles’ relievers have gone 3-0 with four saves and a 4.60 ERA over 47 innings. Anthony Banda allowed two runs in relief on Tuesday night, ballooning his postseason ERA to 10.38. Blake Treining, who has an 8.31 ERA in the playoffs, allowed another two hits in just one-third of an inning in Game 4.
Starter spotlight
- Blake Snell is 3-0 with a 3.01 ERA in four postseason starts this year.
- Has struck out 32 batters over 26 innings in those starts.
- Allowed just one home run over his last eight starts.
- Snell is 6-1 with a 1.56 ERA in 14 career starts at Dodger Stadium.
Blue Jays vs. Dodgers Picks
Money Line Pick for Blue Jays vs. Dodgers
- Blue Jays +1.5 (5 units)
The Blue Jays' resolve was impressive in their efforts to get this even tied at two games apiece while playing on the road. They didn’t get down when they allowed an early run, and they didn’t fear going up against Ohtani. They impressively smacked around Snell in Game 1, and while I don’t expect the former Cy Young winner to get beat up that badly again, I have all the confidence in the Jays being able to get something off of him once again. Then on the flip side, you have the 22-year-old rookie with ice in his veins, seemingly unaware of the magnitude of the moment. I think Yesavage does what is asked of him and keeps his team in this game. While I won’t go as far as to say that Toronto returns home with a 3-2 lead, I do think this is going to be a classic, one-run battle.
Take the Blue Jays with the run line.
Over/Under Pick for Blue Jays vs. Dodgers
- Over 7.5 (4 units)
The first four games of this series averaged a combined 10 runs per game. While there have been some solid pitching performances throughout, the bats have really taken the spotlight. It also helps that the biggest hitters on both sides are hitting the cover off of the ball, save for Ohtani’s hitless night on Tuesday. The Jays have 44 hits and 23 runs this series, and the Dodgers have 34 hits, 23 walks and 17 runs. The winner of this game gets within one win of securing the title, so this game is of the utmost importance and in that intensity the offenses will rise once again. The over is 3-1-1 in the last five games between these two.
Take the over.
