Toronto Blue Jays Looking to Gain Ground

Toronto has been one of the better hitting teams in the American League, ranking 10th in MLB with a .248 batting average. The Blue Jays have scored 354 runs while collecting 724 hits, 88 home runs, a .310 on-base percentage, and a .390 slugging percentage through 87 games. Kazuma Okamoto leads the club with 19 home runs and 54 RBI, while Ernie Clement is batting .299 with a team-high 96 hits. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is hitting .267 with a .348 on-base percentage, Daulton Varsho has added seven home runs, and Nathan Lukes is batting .299.

The Blue Jays have also received solid work from their pitching staff this season. Toronto ranks 14th in MLB with a 4.10 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP while holding opponents to a .242 batting average. Blue Jays pitchers have recorded 758 strikeouts while allowing 309 walks and 96 home runs. Toronto has generally kept games competitive with consistent pitching and will look for another strong effort against a Seattle lineup that has struggled to hit for average.

Seattle Mariners Looking to Extend Winning Streak

Seattle has relied more on timely power than batting average this season. The Mariners rank 26th in MLB with a .232 team batting average but have scored 357 runs while collecting 675 hits and 105 home runs. They own a .313 on-base percentage and a .381 slugging percentage. Randy Arozarena leads the club with a .284 batting average and a .375 on-base percentage, while Luke Raley has hit 14 home runs. Julio Rodríguez has collected a team-high 89 hits with 14 home runs, Cole Young has driven in 41 runs, and Dominic Canzone has contributed 13 home runs. Seattle has won three consecutive games and has scored 15 runs during that stretch.

The Mariners have been one of baseball's better pitching clubs. Seattle ranks fifth in MLB with a 3.69 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP while limiting opponents to a .241 batting average. Mariners pitchers have recorded 758 strikeouts compared to only 221 walks while allowing just 80 home runs through 87 games.

Injuries: Victor Robles (Day-to-Day), Julio Rodríguez (Day-to-Day), Will Wilson (60-Day IL), Rob Refsnyder (10-Day IL), Brendan Donovan (10-Day IL).

Pitching Matchup

Toronto Blue Jays – Shane Bieber

Bieber is 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP across 9.0 innings. He has allowed 14 hits while striking out six batters and walking four.

Seattle Mariners – Logan Gilbert

Gilbert is 6-5 with a 3.42 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP over 100.0 innings. He has surrendered 79 hits while striking out 107 batters and issuing only 22 walks.

Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays Game Pick

  • Seattle Mariners

Seattle has the advantage with one of the league's strongest pitching staffs and the better starting pitching matchup. Gilbert has consistently limited baserunners throughout the season and has recorded more than a strikeout per inning, while Bieber is still working his way back and has struggled through his first two appearances. Toronto's lineup is capable of producing runs, but Seattle's pitching has been much more dependable over the course of the season. Seattle has the stronger overall matchup and is the play.

Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays Over/Under Pick

  • Under

This matchup favors the pitching, especially with Gilbert taking the mound for Seattle. The Mariners rank fifth in MLB in ERA and have consistently kept opposing offenses under control, while Toronto's pitching staff has also performed well enough to keep games close. Seattle has struggled for much of the season with a .232 team batting average, and the Blue Jays have relied more on contact than power. The under is the play.
