Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves, Wednesday, September 24, 2025
We've got a National League East matchup between two disappointing teams on Wednesday afternoon in this Nationals (69-94) vs. Braves (75-83) prediction from Atlanta at 12:15pmET. These squads met on Tuesday, with Atlanta winning 3-2 as a -180 money line favorite. The Braves have dominated the series this season, winning nine straight. This is the final game of the season between these two teams as the Braves finish with Pittsburgh at home and the Nats host the Chicago White Sox. Nobody does it better when it comes to MLB picks!
Nats are a Mess
Washington won the World Series in 2019, but since then, it has been rebuilding for what appears to be forever. You have a team that just fired its manager (Dave Martinez) and GM/President (Mike Rizzo) right before the MLB Draft. They appear "directionless" as only Colorado has a worse record in the National League (64-94). They are 11 games behind fourth-place Atlanta has had a disappointing season.
The Nats come into this game having lost two straight, but they did take two out of three from the sinking New York Mets over the weekend. Washington lacks true star power, but they have a young outfielder in James Wood, who is close to becoming one if he can cut down on the strikeouts (215). He has a .353 OBP and a .465 slugging percentage with 28 homers, 90 RBIs and 15 steals
Washington will go with lefty Andrew Alvarez, who is coming off a poor start, where he allowed four earned runs (six overall) in 3.1 innings in a 12-6 loss at the Mets on Sept. 19. Overall, the southpaw is 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA in four starts.

Waldrep grabs his sixth win
Hurston Waldrep tossed six innings against the Nats on Tuesday, holding them to just five hits and one run with four walks to improve his record to 6-1 on the season in a 3-2 Braves win. Ronald Acuna Jr. hit his 20th dinger, while Michael Harris II jacked two homers for his 18th and 19th of the season.
Atlanta is ending the season on fire, winning 10 straight after the win over the Nats on Tuesday. However, the Braves were eliminated last week from playoff contention for the first time since 2017. They also lost 2B Ozzie Albies on Monday (11-5 win) due to a fractured left hand.
The Braves will go with right-hander Bryce Elder on the mound, who is coming off a strong performance on Sept. 19 against the Tigers. He allowed just one run in seven innings in a 10-1 victory. He faced Washington on May 14, holding them to one run in six innings, but Atlanta fell 5-4 at home. On the season, Elder is 8-10 with a 5.36 ERA with 51 walks and 124 strikeouts in 149.1 innings.
Nationals vs. Braves Pick
Money Line Pick for Nats vs. Braves.
- Washington +1.5 (-130)
The Money Line is too high at -190 to the Braves to lay for Elder, who has an ERA of 5.36. However, the Braves are mediocre against lefties (3.1 hits per game, .250, 2.7 hits/.236/3.7 runs per game at home). Go with the run line, because Atlanta could still win 3-2 again (ok, maybe 6-5) and still win their 11th straight game. Despite their record, Washington is still competing hard.
- Over 9
Neither pitcher is going to win a Cy Young award this season. Atlanta's offense has been dominant lately, putting up an average of 6.8 runs per game in their 10-game winning streak. Elder has been even worse at home this season, producing an ERA of 6.81 and has a 4.95 ERA during he day.
