Boston Celtics Finding Their Rhythm

Boston jumped out to a big first quarter when routing Charlotte, scoring 40 points and led by 31 at intermission. Jayson Tatum led Boston’s scoring barrage with 34 points. Tatum handed out nine assists and grabbed eight boards. The Celtics have won four of their last five, and seven of the last eight. Boston scores 114.3 points per game and gives up only 105.1. Milwaukee managed only 102 against them last Wednesday.

Tatum leads Boston at 27.0 points and 7.9 assists per game. He's comfortable making the pass under pressure, avoiding forced shots. Paul George is the second scorer at 21.3 points, giving Boston another reliable threat. Neemias Queta leads the rebounding at 6.3 boards per contest. The Celtics shoot 45.1% overall and average 43.9 rebounds, even though Boston has piled up victories without shooting well. Friday showed how quickly they can turn a few stops into a runaway win.

Injuries: Devin Carter is a game-time decision.

Milwaukee Bucks Trying to Stop the Slide

Milwaukee played a strong first half against Toronto on Friday. Then the game got away. The Bucks were outscored 70-47 after halftime and lost 121-107, their fifth consecutive defeat. Tyler Herro finished with 23 points and 10 assists, while rookie Brayden Burries supplied 21 points and 11 rebounds. There's been little margin for error during this 1-8 start. Milwaukee averages 110.0 points but allows 122.1. The Bucks have already lost once to Boston this week.

Herro carries the scoring at 22.3 points per game, with Jaime Jaquez Jr. next at 16.8. Ryan Rollins leads Milwaukee with 4.5 assists, while Kel'el Ware grabs a team-high 8.3 rebounds. The Bucks pull down 49.0 boards per game, more than Boston, but haven't translated that advantage into enough stops. They shoot 43.1% from the field, while opponents regularly reach 120. Herro can create offense, yet the rest of the lineup has to help finish possessions.

Injuries: Kam Jones is a game-time decision.

Key To The Game

Milwaukee owns the rebounding edge, 49.0 to 43.9, but Boston has been much tougher defensively. The Celtics allow 105.1 points; the Bucks surrender 122.1. If Milwaukee cannot keep Tatum and George from comfortable shooting opportunities, a rebounding advantage might not matter. Boston already won the first meeting 109-102.Β

Boston Celtics vs Milwaukee Bucks Game Pick

  • Boston Celtics

The Bucks can rebound, and Friday's first half against Toronto showed they can score in stretches. Finishing has been another matter. Boston has won seven of eight, just routed Charlotte by 39, and already beat Milwaukee 109-102 earlier this week. Tatum's 27.0 points and 7.9 assists give the Celtics a steady offensive push, while George adds 21.3 points. Milwaukee allows 122.1 a game, which is inviting trouble against a team playing this well. Herro can keep the Bucks involved early, but Boston's defense should decide it. Take the Celtics.

Boston Celtics vs Milwaukee Bucks Over/Under Pick

  • Under

The first meeting finished 109-102, a combined 211 points. Boston then held Charlotte to 80 Friday, another example of a defense allowing only 105.1 per game. Milwaukee averages 110.0 and has struggled to sustain its offense for four quarters, even when Herro gets going. The Bucks' own defense is a concern at 122.1 allowed, so Boston could score freely. Milwaukee's recent trouble closing possessions should limit its contribution. I'm backing the under.
