The Philadelphia 76ers will host the Boston Celtics this Friday night, and we'll preview the lines and odds in our Celtics vs. 76ers prediction. Philadelphia is off to a 4-0 start, and they've had two days to rest since beating the Magic and Wizards in back-to-back games. Boston is 2-3 after winning their first home game of the season on Wednesday, beating the Cavaliers 125-105. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM ET on Friday, October 31.

Celtics beat Cavs 125-105, up to 2-3 ahead of 76ers rematch

The Boston Celtics are 2-3 heading into Friday, putting them at third in the Atlantic division and 2.5 games behind Philadelphia for the lead. It's early in the NBA season to be too concerned with the standings, but the Celtics already ate a one-point loss to the 76ers in their opening game and would certainly like to close that gap in the rematch.

The Celtics put on a surprising show on Wednesday, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 125-105 in a game they entered as 3.5-point underdogs. They shot 44.2% from the field and 36.8% from behind the arc, secured 53 rebounds to the Cavs' 42, and committed ten turnovers to the Cavs' 14. Donovan Mitchell, who entered the game as one of the highest-scoring players in the NBA, was held to 15 points–five of nine from behind the arc, nothing from two-point range or on either of his two shots from the free-throw line. On the Celtics' side, Jaylen Brown posted another 30-point game–hitting 12-20 from the field, four three-point shots, and both of his free throws. Payton Pritchard led the team with ten assists; Neemias Queta and Josh Minott combined for 28 rebounds, and Sam Hauser scored 21 points off the bench while shooting 7-13 from behind the arc.

Boston averages only 114.2 points per game, 44.6% from the field, and 33.1% from three-point range. They're in the bottom half of the league in all three categories–and the bottom third in both efficiency metrics–but they commit a league-low 11.4 turnovers per game. The 76ers team they're preparing to play ranks third, committing only 12.3 per game.

76ers still undefeated at 4-0 after 139-134 OT win

The Philadelphia 76ers escaped from Washington with their undefeated record intact, beating the Wizards 139-134 in overtime. They're 4-0 heading into Friday, and they're preparing to host a Celtics team that they already beat 117-116 at home to open the season.

It took a late push from the 76ers to stay in this game–they were down 16 points entering the fourth quarter, during which they outscored the Wizards 32-16 to force overtime. Washington was 2.7 percent better from the field; Philadelphia was 1.0 percent better from behind the arc, committed two fewer turnovers, and secured five more rebounds. Tyrese Maxey had another huge scoring night, shooting 11-25 (44.0%) from the field and 14-16 (87.5%) on free throws to secure 39 total points, but he also added a team-high 10 assists. Maxey enters Friday as the league leader in points per game (37.5), in no small part due to the 40-point effort he had against the Celtics when they played a week ago.

The 76ers will remain without Paul George (knee), Jared McCain (thumb), and Dominick Barlow (elbow) in Friday's game. Barlow played 34 minutes in the opener against the Celtics, scoring 13 points while adding five assists and eight rebounds. George underwent knee surgery in the offseason, while McCain is recovering from a more recent surgery to repair a torn UCL.

Celtics vs. 76ers Pick

Spread Pick for Celtics vs. 76ers

  • 76ers -1.5 (-115) (4 Units)

The spread here couldn't favor the 76ers–who are undefeated and playing at home on Friday–more narrowly. They're 3-1 against the spread this season, and they've beaten each of their last three opponents by enough to cover a 1.5-point spread. They're already 1-0 against the Celtics this season, beating them on the road, and they've had two days to prepare for this game after beating Washington on the 28th. Philadelphia hasn't had a home win over the Celtics since 2023–I'd lean toward that streak ending.

Over/Under Pick for Celtics vs. 76ers

  • Over 234.5 (-110) (4 Units)

The Team Total Over is 4-0 in 76ers games this season, and it's 5-0 in the last five meetings between the 76ers and Celtics. Boston averages fewer possessions per game than most teams, and their seasonal averages for scoring aren't special in terms of either volume or efficiency, but they've scored more points in each successive game over their last four contests. Philadelphia is coming off two straight games that saw 250+ points scored in regulation, and they roster the league's leading scorer heading into Friday. I'd take them to hit the over again.
