Brooklyn still in rebuilding mode

The Brooklyn Nets have missed the playoffs for three consecutive seasons and have won just one playoff series in the last decade. The Nets are in the midst of a lengthy rebuilding effort and own seven first round picks in the next three drafts. On Wednesday, Brooklyn missed 19 of 31 three-point attempts and committed 22 turnovers during a 110-103 home loss versus Charlotte.

Brooklyn F Julius Randle made an impressive team debut with 33 points (11-18 FG), eight rebounds, and seven assists. Michael Porter Jr. scored 26 points on 10-for-21 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Noah Clowney added nine points in 22 minutes off the bench for the Nets.

Last season, Brooklyn ranked last in the league in offensive efficiency and averaged 105.9 points per contest. Head coach Jordi Fernandez has more weapons at his disposal, especially with the talented front court duo of Randle and Porter Jr.. In the season opening loss against the Hornets, the Nets were outrebounded by a 44-38 margin and trailed for more than 80 percent of the game.

Cleveland suffers another historic collapse

The Cleveland Cavaliers blew a 22-point lead against New York in the Eastern Conference Finals and could never recover. The Cavaliers were swept in that series and decided to run it back with a talented core of four players who did not play much together during the regular season. In the season opener, Cleveland was unable to protect a 29-point first half lead during a troubling 114-106 road loss against Philadelphia.

All-Star G Donovan Mitchell matched a game-high with 32 points on 11-for-19 shooting and secured ten boards. Cleveland F Evan Mobley scored 18 points on 7-for-13 from the floor, but finished with a minus 15 rating. James Harden added 16 points and five assists for the Cavaliers.

Last season, Cleveland ranked fifth in the league in offensive efficiency and averaged 119.5 points per game. On Wednesday, Cleveland missed 22 of 29 three-point attempts and shot 45 percent from the field. The Cavaliers turned the ball over an alarming 21 times and were outscored 69-37 in the second half.

Brooklyn Nets vs Cleveland Cavaliers Picks and Prediction

Pick: Brooklyn Nets +11

Brooklyn second round pick Tyler Bilodeau is dealing with a shoulder injury and is not ready to make his NBA debut. The Cavaliers won all three meetings against the Nets, including a 28-point home victory. Brooklyn has improved from last year and Cleveland will likely be flat after blowing a historic lead on Thursday. Take the points.

Pick: Over 232.5

Last season, Cleveland played at the tenth fastest tempo and were a top five offensive unit. In four preseason games, the Nets played fast and averaged 124.3 points. The Cavaliers will be looking ahead to a clash with Minnesota on Monday night and will rely on their offense to overwhelm Brooklyn. Take the over.

Final Score Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers win 122-117
