Hornets on a Back-to-Back
Charlotte is in action Saturday and will be on the second leg of a back-to-back for this contest. In their season opener Wednesday night, they took control early and ran away with a 136-117 home win over the Brooklyn Nets.
- Brandon Miller scored 25 points in his first game since Jan. 15, and Miles Bridges added 18 points and 11 rebounds.
- LaMelo Ball added 20 points and eight assists, and Collin Sexton provided a burst off the bench with 15 points as the Hornets enjoyed a successful reopening to the renovated Spectrum Center.
- The Hornets had a franchise-record nine players finish in double digits in scoring, including rookies Kon Knueppel and Ryan Kalkbrenner, both of whom started. It marked the first time in Hornets history that two rookies started the season opener. Miller missed 55 games with a torn ligament in his wrist last season and sat out most of the first quarter after picking up two early fouls.
- The No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft scored 15 points in the game-changing second quarter as the Hornets outscored the Nets 39-28 to build a 17-point halftime lead. Charlotte shot 53.3% from the field.

Wizards Earn Big Road Win
Playing as a big underdog in their second road game of the season, Washington came out firing and closed out a 117-107 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.
- Kyshawn George scored a career-high 34 points. George was 11 of 15 from the field and 7 of 9 from long range, finalized by a corner 3 for a 113-103 lead with two minutes to go.
- His first game of the regular season was good, but this was another level of production, which included new career-highs for points, rebounds, and three-pointers against a tough Dallas defense.
- George is on a team that is loaded with young talent, but he is ascending into a star faster than the rest. Tre Johnson, the former Texas Longhorn and sixth overall pick who played for a Dallas high school, scored 10 of his 17 points in the second quarter.
- Alex Sarr finished with 14 points (5-of-10 FGs), nine rebounds, five assists, one steal, and three blocks. Though it has only been two games, Sarr’s field goal percentage has been much better than it was as a rookie, which is a huge development for him.
Charlotte Hornets vs. Washington Wizards Game Pick
Spread Pick for Hornets vs. Wizards
- Washington Wizards ML (4 Units)
Charlotte and Washington are in similar situations heading into this weekend's game. Both clubs are rebuilding with a slew of young talent, and both are expected to finish near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Charlotte is in action Saturday and will be on the second leg of a back-to-back for this contest. I like the Wizards and George to continue their strong start to the season and build on the road win over the Mavericks. Charlotte was 24th in defensive rating last season, and I expect them to be around that ballpark this year. Take Washington.
OVER/UNDER PICK for Hornets vs. Wizards
- OVER (4 units)
Washington pushed the tempo in a significant way last season, with Jordan Poole at the helm. He is no longer around, but the Wizards are still primed to run as much as possible with one of the youngest starting groups in the league. Although both clubs were at the bottom of the NBA with respect to offensive rating last year, neither team is a defensive juggernaut, and I like the young guns to be active in this one. Take the over.
