Cavaliers win third straight game of season, now 3-1
The Cleveland Cavaliers are 3-1 early in the 2025 NBA season, having won three straight games now against the Brooklyn Nets (131-124), Milwaukee Bucks (118-113), and Detroit Pistons (116-95). They've bounced back well from a 119-111 road loss to the New York Knicks to open the season–their first action since falling to the Indiana Pacers in the 2024-25 Eastern Conference semifinals.
Donovan Mitchell leads the Cavs in scoring with 31.3 points per game, the seventh-highest mark in the NBA heading into Wednesday. Evan Mobley (18.3) and Sam Merrill (17.3) rank second and third in points per game on the team, respectively. The team's current starting group–for now–is rounded out by De'Andre Hunter and Jarrett Allen, who rank fourth (14.5) and fifth (13.5) on the team in points per game and combined for 33 points against the Pistons.
The team is still waiting for Darius Garland to make a full return from offseason surgery. He was assigned to the G League Cleveland Charge on Monday, indicating he's close to a return but clearly ruling out an appearance on Wednesday. Lonzo Ball, who arrived via trade in the offseason and leads the team in assists per game (6.3), is off the injury report after missing Monday's game.

Celtics secure first win of 2025-26 season against Pelicans
The Boston Celtics are 1-3 early this season, securing their first win 122-90 against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday. That game was preceded by losses to the Philadelphia 76ers (117-116), New York Knicks (105-95), and Detroit Pistons (119-113).
It'd be fair to say that the team is missing Jayson Tatum, who ruptured his Achilles in the second round of the 2025 NBA playoffs and isn't a sure bet to play in the 2025-26 season. Tatum led the Celtics in points (26.8), assists (6.0), and rebounds (8.7) per game through the 2024-25 regular season; Jaylen Brown leads the 2025-26 squad with 29.7 points per game, but the other numbers aren't matched by anyone on the Celtics' current squad. The team's win over the Pelicans came despite Brown having his lowest-scoring game of the season, contributing only 15 points after posting 41 in the team's game against Detroit the day prior. Some of that is load management–Brown finished sixth on the team in minutes (24) against the Pelicans after playing 35 or more through each of the first three games, allowing Anfernee Simons to lead the team with 25 points in 32 minutes.
Brown (hamstring) is designated as day-to-day on the injury report, but is expected to play in Wednesday's game. The only other player listed on the report is Tatum, who'll be a fixture there for a while longer.
Cavaliers vs. Celtics Pick
Spread Pick for Cavaliers vs. Celtics
- Cavaliers -4.5 (-105) (4 Units)
Boston is one of those teams that will play hard, but even with Jaylen Brown back, they don't have the talent of last year's team, with no Tatum, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jrue Holiday. The Cavaliers have been favored to win each of their games, and they've secured each of their three wins thus far by five points or more. I wouldn't put too much stock in the Celtics being the team to break that streak–they got off the schneid against the Pelicans, but the Pels are one of only four teams in the NBA with fewer points per game (109.3) as a team than the Celtics (111.5).
Over/Under Pick for Cavaliers vs. Celtics
- Under 232.5 (-105) (4 Units)
Boston is one of the slowest-paced teams in the league at 28th and they'll try and slow it down at home. The Team Total Under is 2-0 in the Cavs' last two games, and the Celtics don't figure to score that many more points than the Bucks (113) or Pistons (95) did. The Celtics are 23rd among NBA teams in field goal percentage (44.8%) heading into Wednesday, and they compensate for that by being second-to-last in free throws made (15.8) and attempted (20.0) per game. They're 11th in field goal attempts per game (90.5), but they'll be playing a Cavs team that ranks 25th (85.0). Both teams are in the bottom third of the league in field goals made per game–they're tied with the Timberwolves for 22nd-24th (40.5). There isn't much here that says 'over', especially when both teams are coming off games that finished about 20 points under similar total lines.
