Nuggets vs Clippers prediction

Nuggets vs Clippers picks are all about one question: can LA finally slow down Denver after getting cooked in back-to-back double-digit losses? I have a strong opinion on that, and I am attacking this matchup with a totals-first approach. For more games on the slate, you can find my full list of NBA picks and build out your card from there.

Nuggets vs Clippers Game Preview and Analysis

Denver has owned this matchup so far, and it has not been subtle. The Nuggets have won and covered both meetings this season, and both were double-digit wins. That is why I am not rushing to step in front of them on the side, even though I do think the Clippers are live as a home dog.

The other key angle is the total. I do not think this number is high enough, and I will explain why. Dating back to last season’s playoff series, each of the last five meetings between these teams have gone over the total. That is not random. The Clippers have shut down a lot of teams this year, but they have not cracked the Nuggets’ code.

During that five-game over streak, Denver has scored an average of 121.6 points per game. That is the stat that matters most to me. If Denver gets anywhere close to that again, this total is going to be in danger all night.

I also like the game script coming out of the All-Star break. Both teams are on the front leg of a back-to-back, and that usually leads to one of two outcomes. Either the defense is a step slow, or the coaching staff tries to steal minutes and avoid grinding possessions. In either case, it is easier for scoring to show up.

On the Clippers side, I also like the fact that they entered the break on a strong run against the spread. They covered three straight games, including a road win at Houston as an 8.5-point underdog. They are not playing scared, and they are not rolling over in big spots.

Denver is healthier now than they have been in a while, and that is another reason I lean offense. Nikola Jokic, Cameron Johnson, and Christian Braun have all returned after lengthy absences. Peyton Watson and Aaron Gordon remain out, but Denver’s main engine is back, and that is what makes them so hard to hold under a number like 225.5.

From a betting standpoint, I am playing the over first, and I am taking a small position on the Clippers plus the points because the market is still asking LA to lose by multiple possessions again. That is a big ask in a rivalry-style matchup, even if Denver has been the better team.

DEN and LAC Injuries and Notes

  • Denver: Peyton Watson remains out.
  • Denver: Aaron Gordon remains out.
  • Denver: Nikola Jokic has returned after a lengthy absence.
  • Denver: Cameron Johnson has returned after a lengthy absence.
  • Denver: Christian Braun has returned after a lengthy absence.
  • LA Clippers: Darius Garland remains out with a toe injury.
  • Both teams are on the front leg of a back-to-back.
  • Denver will head to Portland on Friday.
  • LA Clippers will play the Lakers tomorrow night.

Clippers Final Score Prediction

I am expecting Denver to keep scoring at a high level in this matchup, and I think the Clippers do enough at home to push this game into the high 220s. I also think LA shows more fight than they did in the earlier meetings, even if they still come up short.

  • Projected Final Score: Denver 121, LA Clippers 119

Nuggets ATS and Total Picks
